Current Roster

Post by catatac » Mon Jul 26, 2004 3:43 pm

I know it will change up a bit as soon as fall camp starts rolling, but does anyone have a current roster with updated players, and projected two-deep strarter list? The one on MSUBobcats.com looked a bit outdated. Thanks

The PAC-10 O line guy isn't coming.

So where does this leave us on the O-Line now?
Beniger/DeCock/Jensen/Brewton at LT and RT - am i missing any tackles??

Look for Echauri to be in the mix at tackle if he can get over his arm injury. Also, Daws may be in the mix as well.

BTW- I saw DeCock (That name still cracks me up) the other day in Taco Bell, and he is one hell of a big boy.

Finally dug up some info. to answer my own question. Here is the current projections for starting lineup and backups. Of course this can change quite a bit once camp starts but for now, this is it:

OG: Birkeland/Canfield
C: Wolf/Figueroa
OG: Bolton/Nellermoe
OT: Jensen/Echauri
TE: Wolf/Daws
X: Roosevelt/Guinn
Z: Gatewood/Alley
Slot: M. Williams/Sullivan
QB: Lulay/Coppack
RB: Gathing/Milton/Domineck

DE: Matakis/Cogley
NT: Clark/Papich
DT: Sebestyen/O'Conner
DE: Gluhm/Lowe
LB: Cooper/Curley
LB: Mollohan/Eggart
LB: Marudas/Molock
CB: E. Smith/Fuller
FS: Force/Grenfell
SS: Goins/Lindsay
CB: Hunter/Wall

Anyone know what became of Nick Barbero (sp?) the kid for De la Sales (California highschool that last lost when Hoover was President)? Incidentally, they are coming to Seattle this fall to play Bellevue High School, Washington State 2 time defending champs. I heard it may be played in Seahawk Stadium oops QWest Field. Bellevue won the State championship on a Friday night and Saturday morning had 85 guys in the weight room. Don't know if that's good or not.

It's pretty obvious that players that were here in the spring were given preference over those what are coming this summer. I would say that Lindsay will replace Goins at SS, Dominick will replace Gathing at RB, Guinn will replace Roosevelt at the X, and I also think that Beniger (although I hope he redshirts) will be in the mix somewhere on the O-Line. Also, has anyone heard any word on the 2 new JC DTs (Tim O'Tool and Daryl Rogers)?

Now that I see everything on paper, aside from the O-Line's depth, I am pretty happy with the team we will be able to field. It looks like we should be in contention for a 3rd straight conference championship. I also have a feeling that if everyone stays healthy/eligible, the 2005 team will be one of the top teams in the nation.

It's still Seaturkey staidum to me, it's still Candlestick park to me, and it's still Atlanta Fulton County Stadium to me. Don't give in to corporate hijacking of names for stadiums built with taxpayer money.

How big is Jensen now? I keep hearing that he is only around 250. If this is true we are going to have one of the smallest lines in the country. Still, this could still be a very good line. Can't wait for camp to start so we can get the o-line sorted out and no more guessing.

GO CATS!!

Thought I remember somewhere seeing that Jensen was up to 270.

Remember last year we played Blake Wolf at OT sometimes, and he was 250, and Dusty played a few at OT and he was under 240.

My concerns are, of course the effect that this has on our potentially very good running game. And secondly on Travis confidence. While I like his scrambling ability, I got the impression that sometimes he ran before he should of, due to the pocket breaking down early, or his feeling that the pocket was breaking down. Having confidence in your O-Line is crucial for a successful passing game.

Last I heard Jensen was about 255, and needed to add a lot of strength. I'm still betting the we see Beniger starting before the season is finished. He's up around 285 and is already the one of the strongest kids on the team with a bench press of over 500lbs. The only bad thing that I've heard about Beniger is that he may not have that "mean streak" that is needed, but I have all the confidence in the world that McEndoo will bring that out of him.

Atlanta Fulton was torn down after the '96 Olympics. Turner field is actually the name of the new stadium. At least the true "classic" fields have kept their names... it would be horrible if Fenway Park became Red Lobster Park or something like that.

I know New York has been interested in building a new ball park for the Yankees on Manhatten Island. Can you spell "Big Stien Stadium"? This new name game has become very confusing. Rumor has it Safeco is looking at suitors. Hartford Insurance is said to be one of them. The Mariners may someday play at Hartford Field. Poor old Reno Sales plowed his life savings into a much needed new stadium at MSU which was promptly named after him, only to have it remodeled and changed to Bobcat Stadium with the actual playing field sub named for the contractor/benefactor. Thank you, but goodby Mr. Sales. One of the all timers goes way back when the Tulane family made a huge donation to the University of Louisiana and the school changed it's name. This stuff has been going on in one form or another forever.
PS Dennis Washington, are you reading this? Montana could have it's very own University of Washington.

If you don't mind me asking, where are you getting your information, and is there more of it? If Beniger is seriously benching over 500 as a freshman that's huge. Plus, I ws looking for current weights on the players. Thanks

catatac: I don't have anything written, but we golfed with Jason McEndoo in Helena in June. He said that Jensen was really hitting the weights and was up to around 270. He also remarked that Beniger was a big lifter throughout high school and was already the second strongest guy on the team before he even gets to campus. No weights were mentioned, or I forgot, but McEndoo is really high on Bryan. Everything I have heard from others in Helena, he is a great kid and comes from a top notch family. We really may need him, so lets hope he and Jensen are ready.

By the way, I am really impressed with Coach McEndoo. He has some great credentials as a player and the kids reportedly love playing for him. He is a very nice guy and very smart. While playing at WSU, he did get his degree. Then he went back to school and got an advanced degree, so he has a lot going for him. I am glad we have him working with the O-line, especially such a young group.
