IF the defense is for real, the future would appear very promising considering that seven starters (Papich (so.), Saucedo (fr), Kolone (fr), Lowe (jr), King (so), Force (jr), Fuller (fr)) are all underclassmen. Five of them have two or more years remaining. Daly and Mauia seem capable of filling in for Marudas and Mollohan, while the new BSU guy and Smith should be able to replace Grenfell and Hunter.

This same topic has been going on in the College section under the Ft Lewis thread. Actually the D and O both look good for the future (Coaches have done a very good job stocking the cubboards).

BY POSITION
LB has only King and Lowe back (ONLY?? great start)
DBs - Should be very good (Force, Davis, Fuller, Smith (all to be starters this year)
DL - All the starters back and Matakus might be also. Also all the backups (minus Rogers)
OL will have 4 of the top 6 back and good backups ready with only one spot to fill.
QB will have 2 good options (Carpenter and Coppack). Both looking good and will be mature talented Juniors Would probably be starting for the Griz this year?
RB could actually be even better with Groves and Tiato. Both look really good.
TE - ALL back as Red Shirt sophs
WR will have Brown (very good), Roosevelt, and Lulay back. Some TRs would help here.

Seems like a couple of WR transfers and a LB or two and you are gold again. Wouldn't call it without a little talent coming back.

The only concern voiced was if Carpenter and/or Coppack will really be the solution.

Along these lines, I forgot to post that I talked with Hoffenbacker at the Flathead/Hellgate last Friday night and his attitude was FANTASTIC!

He had just finished his first week of classes; he says everything is great thus far and he really likes Coach Kramer (how could he not, eh? )

He looks good; he's been lifting and is focused on being a 4 year starter. I think our D-line is going to be outstanding for years to come.

I work with Brandon Hoffenbacker and the kid has such a great demeanor. I think this grey shirt year will allow him to focus and be ready to step in and fill Bolten's shoes.

Confused. Is Hoff projected to play D or OL (where Bolton is).

On OL, you start or you watch. There is very little if any subs.
On the DL, they rotate and 2nd teamers like Rogers and Saitago still play a good deal.

It's easier to be a 4 year starter on the DL, Much harder on the OL (especially with returning starters - 4 - Hirst, Birkland, Jensen, DeCock)

My understanding is they are strictly talking DL.

That was what I was hearing also, I was surprised when I saw "stepping into Bolton's shoes" (which is OL or Kicker).

I was thinking Sweet Lou could be the holder (he wants to be in the back field) and Hoff could be the kicker. Actually just threw the kicker part in to get a reaction and their were talking about shoes.

Speaking of OL vs DL - what was up with the article before the OK State game that said Lou may be switching to the O line??? I still haven't heard what that was all about - was he not getting it done at Noseguard? I'm assuming he answered any questions during the OK State game, as he's listed as the starting noseguard against SFA. Anybody know the real scoop?

Lou is going to play both sides of the ball (OL and DL) and start for both lines. The first true Bobcat two way player.

No doubt that Lou is big enough to play either, but I think he will be most effective on the DL. Nobody can move this mountain and it takes two or more to stop him.

Speaking of 2-way players, I hear that Chuck Bednarik is coming to speak at the Holiday Inn on the 22nd of September.

Actually I heard Force was going to start at NT (can play anywhere and this would allow the kid from BSU to play safety), Sweet Lou was going to move to TE (to use his speed), and Bolton move to FB to scare the opposing DL. Hoff take over kicking responsibilities because he can fit Bolton's shoes and Gathering move from RB to LB (wait, that has happened).

Now if I could only get a hold of the coaches with my ideas :-^
