Your Favorite/Worst Stadium (Pro or BIG TIME College).

Post by Billings_Griz » Tue Jul 28, 2009 12:41 pm

That "Rockie's Fan" thread got me thinking. What is/are you're favorite stadiums?

No Griz fans, don't be dumb. Wa-Griz isn't the "big-time" I'm looking for.

FAVS:

1) Dodger Stadium. The place is just friggin' cool. Ten min from Downtown but once you're there you can't really see anything. The stadium is up on a hill--can't see anything. It's like you're out in the country. And for the 3rd (I think it's the 3rd) oldest stadium in MLB its very current.

2) Camden Yards. Very cool stadium. However, we went to a Yankees/Orioles game and I think there were more Yanks fans.

3) Invesco/Coors Field. Denver just does things right. Been to a few games at both. Invesco is light years ahead of old Mile High. Heck, even the Pepsi Center is nice. Been to hockey, bb and concerts there. I like the Crown Royal bar there. 8)

Been to a few games at Safeco but the place just never impressed me much. I'd like to see a game at the Seahawks new field, however.

DUMPS: (ok Cat fans, its time for you not to be dumb  )

1) Metrodome. Been to UM Football, Vikes and Twins games. Sh!thole.

2) Mile High. Obviously, it's gone. It needed to be.

3) Can't remember the name of it but the Texas Rangers old stadium. Went to a game there in '89, just remembered I wasn't impressed. Also, never been to a game at the old Texas Stadium but from the outside it was ugly. No curb appeal at all.

WISH LIST:

1) Wrigley/Fenway. Not so much a Cubs fan and can't stand, no wait, HATE the Red Sox but I gotta admit, I think it would be cool to go to a game there.

2) The NEW DALLAS COWBOYS Stadium. DUH!!!

3) College game at Penn St, Michigan, anywhere where I can party w/ 100k+!!!

Favs ive been to
1. Beaver Stadium - Huge penn state fan, was at first game jimmy clausen played against the lions. Amazing tailgating that i thought would be unmatched....... Until i got into the stadium with the white out. Simply put - Amazing.

2. Safeco Field - There is no bad seat. Ive sat both very close to the field as well as almost last row. Both great views of the game. And then there are the garlic fries. Ya either love or hate the smell.

Wish List
1. Rosenblat Stadium. Always wanted to check out the college world series. Spend a week watching the best college baseball teams battle their hears out in what appears on TV to be a very welcoming park.

2. Staples Center - Lakers game. Never been to a NBA game. This stadium makes it worth your money better than any other.

Worst 2 Same City

I went to both the old Yankee Stadium and Shea Stadium and they were without question two of the biggest dumps around. They tried to hold on to history in Yankee stadium, but the seats were small and uncomfortable, it smelled like sewage, and the view was limited to certain areas. Shea was a little nicer, but i dont think had ever been updated. and you had to deal with Mets fans in cramped quarters.

I'll have three fingers of Glenlivet, with a little bit of pepper... and some cheese.

Good
Husky Stadium- granted it's the only FBS stadium I've been to, but it's pretty cool. Being able to boat right up to the game. Views of the mountains. Fun when it's packed and the huskies score....the fire up the siren..LOUD. COOL!!

Qwest - pretty nice...sounds great when the 12th man gets rolling. View of the sound is sweet.

Not so great:
Network Associates - Oakland - gameday was fun, tailgateing awesome(one of the best, for sure). Do not get in the upper decks as they are really far from the field.

Wish List:

Lambeau Field - I'd like to see a real smash mouth ball game up in Green Bay

University of Michigan - "The Big House" - love to see them smoke Notre Dame on a sunny fall afternoon. This may just come true as a friend used to be greenskeeper for the University.

Neyland Stadium - cause it's huge. And those southerners like some football, seems like it would be a fun place to watch a game. A night game here.

Harvard Stadium - SI did article about historic stadiums and this one looked cool, so did Yale's. Some FBS stadiums are patterned after these stadiums.

Been to the Delta Center, Freedom Hall (U. of Louisville's old BBall complex), Kyle Field, Arrowhead Stadium, Kauffman Stadium, and Coors Field. Arrowhead was cool, Kaufmann was ok - looks way better in person than it does on TV. Coors is nice, as is the Delta Center. Freedom Hall is ok, and that whole convention site that Freedom Hall is part of in Louisville is HUGE.

However, A&M's Kyle Field was the best by far - It's just damned impressive. Doesn't hurt that they have some of the best fans in all of sports.

Wish List:

Rosenblatt Stadium - I agree with WORM. Though it is usually humid and hot as hell during the CWS.

Va. Tech's stadium - just for the start of the game...

The Sun Bowl looks like it would be cool, surrounded by the desert around El Paso. Plus, it always seems to be a good game.

South Carolina's anc Clemson's looks pretty cool as well.

I'd like to visit Happy Valley sometime and hit Beaver Stadium, maybe in a snowstorm game... Talk about a whiteout!

Eric Curry STILL makes me sad.

Best - Invesco Field at Mile High
Worst - Kingdome (at least for baseball)

Best - Fenway, it's tight and cramped seating but the atmosphere is great. Nothing like watching the Sox with 36,000 rabid fans. Only bad thing was there beer was Coors light.
Worst - Old Candlestick. I sat in the outfield and the field seemed like it was a mile away.

Only been to a few, professional or college. Don't really have any I hate, unless you count Candlestick Park in the 70's during a cold, wet, windy, delayed doubleheader (umps flight was delayed) against the then Montreal Expos. But I was only 7 or 8 then.

Safeco - I like the fact that you can circle the entire stadium on the main level and never lose sight of the game. We've watched games from almost every viewpoint, and they've all been great. They might also have the best stadium food in the Majors. I can almost smell the garlic fries from here. And Ivar's clam chowder... what goes better with an $8 beer?

Kyle Field - Texas A&M - They just do everything right down there. The tradition, Midnight Yell, Corps of Cadets, tailgating, 25,000-30,000 students standing the entire game, the flyover that looks as if it's going to take off the couple rows of the third tier, and the hospitality. I can't recall how many times A&M fans asked us if everybody was treating us alright. Oh, and the hospitality at the Dixie Chicken, and the other bars the night before. We bought our first pitcher, and then didn't buy another drink the entire night. Had an "unofficial" host who told us that as long as we were on his turf, we weren't allowed to buy a drink (must've thrown down 100 bucks that night) He was too drunk to go to Midnight Yell and made sure to find us some other fans to guide the way (although it's not hard to find 10,000 fans all headed the same direction at midnight).

Wish list

Finley Stadium (need I say more?)
Lambeau - drove right by it once and something about it gave me chills, and no, it wasn't the chilly Green Bay air.
the new Cowboys stadium
Qwest Field

Retiring my moniker. It's time to ride off into the sunset. It's been a fun ride. Go Cats.

Well the only professional game I've ever been to was for the Chargers at Qualcomm and I was thoroughly unimpressed. I thought I was going to fall out of my seat it was so steep.

WishList:

Autzen Stadium, Invesco @ Mile High, Lambeau, Notre Dame, the Swamp, Staples Center, and Bronco Stadium in Boise(I just want to see the blue turf).

And even though I hate them with every fiber of my body, I would like to see a game in the Colliseum.

Best - University of Phoenix Stadium............................Go Cards!
I am going to the new Dallas stadium for a game this fall but it sure will take a lot to beat the Cards Stadium it is absolutely awesome.

Worst - Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium
No atmosphere and all the Texas fans make it a place to avoid. Possibly the worst stadium in all of college football.

Coors Field is amazing. Even the $5 "Rock" seats way out in center field are a good place to watch
Yankee Stadium (new one) - This place really is a palace. Really not a bad seat in the house and you can spend an entire day just going through everything they have in there
Autzen Stadium - Never been to a game there but went to a camp in high school. When you walk from the campus to there its like going through a jungle, and when you finally get to the stadium it takes your breath away. There is no other stadium like it.
Cowboys Stadium - Drove by it the year they got it complete and the thing is so freaking huge! The stadium is spectacular just looking at it, can't wait to go to a game there.

Wish List:
Wrigley
Memorial Stadium (Nebraska)
Fenway
Notre Dame (would be amazing to go just for the tradition and history)

Best:
Safeco Field - It's been explained enough above
Quest Field - Paul Allen really did things right with the stadium. That place seriously is deafining loud when the 12th man is rocking.

Meh:
Petco Park - The best part about this is that you can get $5 tickets.
Arizona Diamondbacks Stadium (whatever it is called) They didn't install the seats to look towards the diamond. Which is weird and awkward.

Worst:
Kingdome - It was awesome for it's history and watching Nolan Ryan pitch his last game in it. But, simply terrible to watch baseball in.
EWU - Red Turf. Enough said
Husky Stadium - I really can't believe that some people think this is the best stadium! It's an engineering nightmare (tipped over a couple times during construction) and I really think it is ugly as hell.

Wish List:
Cowboys Stadium
Aloha Stadium - I just really want to see a Hawai'i Warriors football game in Hawai'i

As a person who likes Husky Stadium, or a least isn't offended by the design, I'd invite those that dislike it to consider it's unique qualities of being nearly on the water with views of the mountains......you can actually boat to the game...Pretty kick a$$ in my book.

Not a fan of the track around the field though.

I agree that the location of Husky stadium is second to none. I've never been partial to the actual stadium itself however.

Chester's Favs:

1.) Tiger Stadium (detroit). Nothing like sitting in the right field upper deck which over hanged the field. you could sit in the front row and watch a ball come right at you, it falls short, and the right fielder catches it for an out behind you.
2.) Pac-Bell in SF
3.) Madison Square Garden.
4.) the Aud in Buffalo & Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto. two great old barns to watch a hockey game. sad they are gone.

Not so Favs:
1.) for those that want to go to the big hole, errr big house in ann arbor... it sucks. if you want to experience 100k+ go to columbus. there is more noise at a library than on a football saturday... not to mention all the "seats" on the bleachers are only 18" wide (instead of 24")... thats how they fit 100k. they just renovated and added a bunch of suites, etc... so architecturally it is better now. before it was (still is) just a giant hole in the ground.
