Ducks / Griz
I would bet that the ducks will do what they typically do. Fast start, go up by 2-3 touchdowns. Let up and let the griz hang around and eventually after boring the crap out of everyone in the second half score a late touchdown to win by 17. Rarely do the Ducks blow anyone out, even Washington stayed in the game last year despite throwing something like 7 interceptions.
However, the Griz fans who think the talent level at Oregon is even remotely close to the talent level in 1993 are sadly mistaken. This is now a legitimate Pac 10 program whereas in the early 90's it was a pretender.

My thoughts precisely, PDXcat.
I lived in Eugene in the early 90's & had season tickets for the Ducks a couple of seasons. They were just beginning to become a decent program; they still were not a threat for top 25 status, however, and didn't even contend for the Pac 10 crown. The OSU team the Griz beat was comparable to the current Idaho program. Although the Ducks were better than that when the Griz played them, they were NOWHERE near the level of play they've achieved under Bellotti.
Despite your points about UO not blowing people out, I'm pretty sure they're going to put a serious beat-down on the Griz in 3 weeks...

Yeah. And Cat fans were alot quieter then too. I wondered until around 2001 or 2002 if they really existed. Like Santa. Only Santa was more believable.lifeloyalsigmsu wrote:Weren't you only 6 or 7 years old in 1993?Nick wrote:Heard the same thing before losing to Oregon 35-30 in `93 and beating OSU 35-14 in `96.catatac wrote:Kind of like the Griz fans that think they have a shot at a respectable showing against Oregon?bearBAC wrote:can you say "delusional"?

I agree with you. No matter how good the Grizzlies are going to be this year, in 2006 they will be even better! Quite possibly, unstoppable as you have said!catatac wrote: If you think the 2005 grizzlies are anywhere near the caliber of the 2003 OR 2006 grizzlies, then you definitely need to take off the maroon glasses. The 2006 Grizzlies were basically unstoppable

FYI, I think you really meant to say "The 2006 Grizzlies WILL BE basically unstoppable, not were basically unstoppable.

Regardless of what OSU does, I think the Cats will score at least 28 points. I doubt if the griz will score more than 10 against the Ducks, unless the Ducks have such a big lead they're playing way deep in their roster.

That’s what I was thinking about the cats, maybe 10 points on the board unless all the scrubs are in.GOKATS wrote:Regardless of what OSU does, I think the Cats will score at least 28 points. I was under the impression OKState would be a better football team this year than last.
In their 7 wins last year, they allowed an average of 15 points per game. And you think the cats will double that this year? Are you serious? Or is this a joke?
The GRIZ, a quarter century of total football dominance over the cats.

Hmmmm... all accounts I've read speak of vast changes and great uncertainty for OKState. Sounds like yer just talkin' outta that big east coast ass of yours again... and no, i'm not joking.Eastcoastgriz wrote:I was under the impression OKState would be a better football team this year than last.

First, I have a small ass. Second, I thought their preseason rating was in the 28th - 29th area and last year it was like 40 -41. It is possible my facts are wrong as I have a very small brain and I am working off memory.GavinDonos wrote:Hmmmm... all accounts I've read speak of vast changes and great uncertainty for OKState. If you look at the WSU games in 2001 and 2002 we were more than competitive in the first half (we even played better than WSU in the first half of the 2001 game). This was probably due to WSU taking us litely and us playing like we had nothing to lose. WSU made adjustments at halftime and they got fired up and you could see the difference between the teams. OSU is not as good as those WSU teams and MSU is better than our 2001 and 2002 teams. I believe that this game will follow that pattern. We will be competitive and at some point OSU's talent, depth and the temperature will ware us down and they will pull away. Our offense always starts slow and our D is not of the caliber of our 2003 team.
41-17 Final!

I'm not into guessing the score but here's my take on this game. They have a very young secondary that we should be able to take advantage of - flip side, they have extremely athletic lineman that are just going to pin their ears back and bullrush, which we will look to exploit at times and at others, we'll wonder how thay got back there so fast. Defensively they operate with a sense of urgency that their dc likens to throwing a piece of meat to a school of piranhas - they try to really fly to the ball. They just switched to a traditional 4-3 alignment from a 5-2 and they'll experience some confusion at times. We will be able to move the ball and will score against their defense, but our receivers need to make plays (catch balls). Offensively they have very athletic runningbacks and quarterbacks and will be more than a handfull for our defense. They will operate out of a no huddle set and will try to throw the ball more than their 16 time average of a year ago - they arent good at throwing the ball so hopefully we can get a few turnovers. Their goal is to be lined up prior to the ref setting the ball so they really want to set the tempo to try to not allow a defense to change players and alignments etc. This is new to them as well and they will have some motion penalties and the like. My question is, how will our big boys upfront do in 90+ heat at that pace? Their overall team athleticism is huge, we can't get into a track meet with these guys, especially in that heat, but that is their goal. All in all this will be a big challenge for us - if our defense steps up it could be very interesting. Playing in front of a capacity crowd in a "sea of orange" (with a small blue contingent tucked in a corner somewhere) will, no doubt, get our boys amped up and ready for anything else this season will bring on.

Wrong. Okie Light by 3 touchdowns (21 points, I am assuming they make the kicks and won't feel compelled to go for 2) means they cover a 20 point spread and I win. But have it your way. I'll give you MSU +21 for half a hun.lifeloyalsigmsu wrote:I'll take the 21 points then.UMclassof2002 wrote:Okie Light by 3 touchdowns for $50?
