What happened with Cogley? I know he has been banged-up, but I didn't expect to see him retire. He would have been a big part of our depth on the D-line this year. I hope your info is wrong.

Not surprised to see Zach make it official. Too bad, though.

If true, best of luck to both young men.

Cogley was a surprise. This being his Junior year he may have looked at his health combined with his position on the depth chart and said it was time to quit. The article said it was a hip problem. This is especially surprising because for him to gain the kind of weight they said he did this year he had to be doing some heavy "core" excersizes like squats and dead lifts. Hard to do those with bad hips!

This comes directly from www.msubobcats.com

http://www.msubobcats.com/news.php?sid=h&nid=1082

"HAPPY TRAILS: Mike Kramer announced that a pair of Bobcat standouts retired from the team on Monday. Junior defensive lineman Ryan Cogley (hip) and senior center Zack Wolf (knee) each ended their playing days due, primarily, to injuries. "These are a couple of guys who have been really solid performers in this program, and they helped this organization to two Big Sky titles and three consecutive winning seasons."

Typically when the team annouces actions like these, it is for a special reason. That the players are probably taken off scholarship (to free the scholarship up for someone else either on the team or a transfer).

When done like this, it also means that the player is probably not left high and dry. That they are given a position working for the school/team that pays for schooling (taking video of games/practice, helping coach, ....) Just comes out of another bucket of money.

This type of annoucement also means that the player is probably physically a risk that the team and school does not want to take a chance with. It is far better for the player not to play and risk a greater perminant disability.

This is something MSU does very well (who was the center before Zach that was retired early with a shoulder problem from lifting?)

Good Luck Zach/Ryan! Thanks for your die hard support/work you have put into the Bobcats the last 3-4 years. You both were class acts and make us all proud to be Bobcats. You will be missed.

I talked with Blake Wolf (Zach's Bro, 'Cat tight end last year) recently, and he said that after 5 surgeries in 3 years, Zach felt it was his time to say goodbye. Blake also said that there is only a 20% chance that his knee injury will heal completly. Even then it may only last ten years before it wears out.

Don't quote me on this, because I was trying to recall the numbers from memory. If I made a mistake, I am sorry. :?
