You are correct old school, if we are even going to keep the name Martel Field, maybe we should see if Martel would be willing to throw in some of his girls he was so busy with in his spare time!!

Pretty low dig Grzslayer. Sounds pretty petty and childish to me but that is just my opinion.
I don't think the Foundation could have went wrong with any of the prospective contractors. Most of the large contractors in MT have developed good reputations through the years by doing good work. I also do not think that the contractor will make a dime off this project - I think they were bidding for the PR and to help MSU in regards to containing costs.
Living in Bozeman, I am happy that a local Bozeman contractor got the job. They will higher a larger percentage of locals. I know that doesnt help Bobcats around the rest of the state but like I said, I live in Bozeman.

When Martel construction did the 1st renovation, Bill Martel donated the profit from the Job to MSU, and it was a sizeable donation. Tony Martel now runs the company, Bill is retired. The Martel family has been in Bozeman for many years and have always been a positive contributor to the Bozeman and MSU community. I for one am glad that they again get to do the job, and Tony may very well make the same contribution once the job is complete.

The State of Montana is Bobcat country.
missoula....still just 20 miles from Montana.

I have no problems with Martel Const. being awarded the job (and that's not a knock against the other companies either). I also won't have a problem with the company keeping their hard-earned profit should they decide to. If they opt to donate some back, nice bonus!
I simply look forwward to the new work being done!

As for Martel Construction now Jason and the rest of the gang do great work and that is fine. But a question was asked about Bill's past and I simply stated what happened. As far as if it's a low dig or petty, I will leave that decision up to his wife and family!!

Does anyone have a guess at (or know) what Martel's bid was?

GS has a right to bring up that topic. It has had an impact on this community and is valid

I am not going to say the question is valid or not about Martel, I have no idea what went down, but I have to say that I trust in the people making the decision. I have to believe they have the information and knowledge necessary to make a thorough analysis and make the best decision they can based on that and the required specs. I also choose to believe they are inteligent and knowledgeable people and will make the best decision they can on the contractor. Now, this may or may not agree with some as we each may have our own thoughts on who we would like to be the contractor, but I have confidence they will choose a very reputable contractor who can do the job right.

Grzslayer - I would agree, it is a family issue not a message board issue.
Congrats to Martel Const - I am sure they will do a fine job just as they do on all thier projects.

This ain't no congeniality contest. Two months ago a lot of people were saying they'd do anything to see something happen with the stadium project and were making fun of the 'quiet phase.' Kind of hard to be getting all nit-picky about who's going to do the work.

I heard through some of my former co-workers that Martel had gotten the job. I have friends who work for Martel and they will do a nice job.
One thing I can say about Bill Martel is that it is none of our business. In the industry he is known as a hard a** but he is really loyal to his employees who do a good job (turnover is very low there) and my friends are always being pushed to be the best in the industry. As far as I know he retired over a year ago anyway.
If everyone that stepped out on their marriages got caught like he did there would be a lot of humiliated people around Bozeman, so if you don't like it get over it.

I have heard from a reliable source that yes Martel did get awarded the contract shortly after the interview process was complete. They have been great supporters in the past and I am sure will be into the future.
I would like to however defend the interview process and especially the interviewing of Dick Anderson Const. Dick may be a U of M supporter however he has several people in his office that are Bobcat Supporters. They have been sponsors of our local Bobcat club and the events we put on such as the golf tourny. Several of his current and past employees come from our great Engineering program. He has done several other projects on the campus and they have a great reputation in the state.
Enough said...lets build it!!

Relax, Francis. Sorry I brought it up, but still think it was a valid question. Personally, I couldn't remember what the ordeal was about, just remember there being one. I never knew what the resolution was, I just remember at the time their being some humiliation because his name was on the stadium/field. Last thing we need in the Athletics program is to tie ourselves to a firm with a cloud hanging over its head. Glad the hear he put his willie back in pants and things are all peachy keen.

Martel will do a great job, and I think we should all be happy to be having this discussion. Now all we need to do is raise 1 MILLION dollars before the griz game so that we can get it built!
