Vikings Players Plan To Meet Brett Favre

Brett Favre reportedly is on a plane en route to Minnesota after three of his teammates traveled to Hattiesburg, Miss., to get an answer from the quarterback on his playing status for the 2010 season.

WDAM-TV in Hattiesburg reported Tuesday that Favre departed on a plane bound for Minnesota at 2:15 p.m. ET but that there were no details regarding whether Favre planned to play for the Vikings this season.

Minnesota Vikings guard Steve Hutchinson, defensive end Jared Allen and placekicker Ryan Longwell traveled to Hattiesburg on Monday to get an answer from Favre, sources told ESPN.

FoxSports.com reported Tuesday that Favre told the three players that he would play for the Vikings this season.

The Vikings' urgency to get an answer turned to panic Monday when Favre, was reluctant to report to the team this week and wouldn't give word if he was coming, sources told ESPN.com's John Clayton. The team, according to sources, dispatched Allen, Longwell and Hutchinson to talk him into coming. None of the three players was back for practice Tuesday. Their mission was to get Favre and when he boarded a plane Tuesday afternoon, their mission was accomplished.

In many ways, the offense is in more disarray than a year ago, and the team needed Favre as quickly as possible. Percy Harvin had been away from July 31 until Monday because of two deaths of people who were close to him and migraine headaches. Adrian Peterson has missed most of camp with a hamstring injury. Sidney Rice is sidelined with a hip problem.

The players' envoy to Mississippi was first reported by the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

When asked about the report of Favre's plane heading to Minnesota and whether Favre would play for the team in 2010, Vikings offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell said it's all speculation now.

"That's all speculation right now," Bevell said. "If it were to come to pass, Coach [Brad Childress] would make that call."

It was one year ago Wednesday that Favre reported to the Vikings last season.

Favre told ESPN's Ed Werder earlier this month that he will play this season if healthy. The quarterback, who had ankle surgery in May, met with Dr. James Andrews last week to try to determine why the ankle is still bothering him.

Favre has waffled on retiring every summer since 2002. It led to an ugly parting with the Packers that got him traded from Green Bay to the Jets in 2008.

After a so-so season in New York, he announced his retirement in early 2009 for the second time, then reconsidered and signed with the Vikings.

surprise surprise! gonna be way tougher this year as the vikes schedule is about 10 times more difficult but i'm excited none the less.

Again with my torn feelings between loving to watch him play and hoping he does well and hating the team he plays for and wanting nothing but the worst for them.

If Jared Allen flew in to see me and told me to play for Idaho State this year or else, (let alone the Vikings) I'd have a real hard time telling him to go fly a kite.

I do not envy Favre today. Not only does he have to wear a purple jersey but he's got to be wondering about the a$$ kicking he's getting tonight, will it be as bad as last time?

no. the nfl won't allow the dirty stuff to happen again. fines were handed down and the main cheap-shot artist is no longer on the team. this isn't just sour grapes, (although i admit i'm bitter) as the nfl deemed that 3 hits were late and calls were missed and they handed down fines as well as letters to BOTH teams saying that none of the cheap stuff was gonna be tolerated tonight. god i can't wait!

) and was so disgusted by that game that I couldn't even be happy when they won the Superbowl.

the thing is, a lot of people think that when you bring up something like cheap shots or even injuries that you are making excuses for a loss. i'm not doing that. the saints beat us and we didn't help our cause by giving them the ball 5 times!

but that doesn't change the fact that there was some real bs plays that the saints got away with. i think the officials are ging to be VERY quick with the whistle tonight so i really hope our guys keep their composure. still room for some more if you decide you want to switch over.....

I just stomached sitting through the entire game with a bunch of Saints fans. Nice folks, but every time a Viking got hit hard they'd say, "Oh, cheapshot," sacrastically, as if. It was tough to sit through. Worse than the NFL's following day apologies for missing calls. I wonder if they will do that on the incomplete pass to Kleinsasser?

It's going to be really interesting to see how this latest Favre story plays out. Apparently, in his wife's book she wrote about his womanizing, and at one point had her bags all packed and was ready to leave him, but he vowed that he wouldn't ever stray again, and so she decided to stay and give him one final chance. I wonder if there will be more feministas coming foward with their "Favre" stories now, as with Tiger Woods? I'm not intending to judge him prematurely, but I do find it interesting that he has not yet offered up any denials.
