Montana vs No. Dakota Badlands Bowl
This Saturday is the 17th Badlands Bowl game between Montana and North Dakota, this year to be held at Dickinson State's new stadium. I believe this will be the first game held at the new facility which no has artificial turf. Montana leads 12-4 but has not won in North Dakota since 2003. I met with the coaches last night and they are pretty optomistic which they should be I guess. Montana is not real big, and more often than not has not be quite as big as the Dakotans in the past either. But they have good quickness and athleticism. Should be a good game and I will be there. Lot of Montana State recruits and some UM recruits on the roster as well as others going to Northern, Western, and Carroll. Of course Miller from Helena, who is a Boise State recruit, will be at wide receiver. Rhett Young, Augusta, a Bobcat recruit, is the first 6-man player to ever play in this game, and he will be a running back. This is a great game put together by brothers Rick and Kelly Reid. Rick is in Diskinson and Kelly in Miles City as both grew up here. Great People... and a great group of people who work on this game each year. It is a special event for the players to play at this level with all of their piers from throughout the state.

I thought I read where Miller from Helena wasn't playing in this game.

My bad, he's not playing in the East-West Shrine game next month.

Miller has his picture in the Miles City Star newspaper and was interviewed and is playing. He stated this will be his last high school game as he will not be playing in the Shrine Game due to Boise State committements.

I say the player bios posted in the Miles City papers over three days but did not tally the numbers. There are 5 or 6 guys listed as going to the UM too, I think 2 going to Carroll, and 3 or 4 going to Nothern, Western and Tech and I think one is going to the Air Force Academy and playing football there. There are also several also not going to be in sports in college and one going to play baseball instead of football. Gives an interesting perspect on the players at this level.

Re: Montana vs No. Dakota Badlands Bowl
Fun game to watch in a beautiful new stadium and Dickinson State. Wow.. Frustrating in that Montana ran up 536 yards to 299 for ND but the turnover game was clearly won by ND 7-1. Tought to win with that man TO's. Offensively MT was monstrous... future Bobcats: Rhett Young did fine... not extremely flashy but solid at RB (had a big learning curve and did well considering that)... Dees played pretty well, one sack for usre I know of, but the defense had some trouble containing the quick kid from ND... Dirks did a nice job defending the pass... Thibault ran a kick back for about 80 yards but was called back on a holding call... Floeketter is going to be a good one I believe for the Cats... the offensive focus seemed to be on Miller but Floeketter made his presence known and took pressure off Miller... Miller is an absolute stud though.... wow... the Lang kid, not sure where he is going to college, had a solid game from the LB spot, offensive line did a nice job protecting on the pass, MTcould have and should have scored 50 + though...
When all is said and done it was a great game for the Badland Bowl series... intense, close, exciting and fun. ND needed a win to build some enthusiasm and capitalized very well on the turnovers by MT.... MT still showed they probably could have dominated again... but... that's why you play the game. I take my hat off in deep appreciation for Kelly and Rick Ried and their father who passed away recently, they are the ones that have done an outstanding job organizing this game from it's inception! And to the committees of people from Dickinson and Miles City and others from around the states have done a great job contributing to the success of this event.
