I know there are a lot of Will Holden fans out there (I am not one due to his constant slighting at every opportunity). Recent example: Sunday's Chronicle feature article on the game. Two pictures with comments - one on the front page "Will Bynum's shot is blocked by SJSU....."; second one on page B2 "SJSU Chris Oakes beats Bobby Howard to a rebound....". How about couching it this way instead: "Cats hold nation's 5th leading scorer (Oliver) to 6 points under average but wasn't enough to win". Why does he have to go out of his way to slight the Cats at every opportunity?

i'd say the proof is in the pudding. you choose to look at some captions and small quotes in the paper. the rest of us look at the non-stop work he does around the clock following our football and basketball team. football coverage has NEVER been as good as it's been will will doing it. if he really wanted to "slight" the cats he could do a half-assed job. just enough to not get fired but not nearly as much as he does now. his job is to be objective and i think he does that very well. again, it seems like fans feel their entitled to belittle coaches, players, teams, and now reporters...yet if reporters do something as minor as posting a pic in which a cat player is getting blocked it's a big deal.

OMG! TWO PICS! I need the editor's number RIGHT NOW because I'm going to call and complain that there WERE TWO PICS that showed how crappy we played last night. When your feelings get hurt by something you call a "slight," it really shows you are complaining just to complain and "try" to prove a point that clearly is wrong. I've never seen anyone comment badly on Will on any subject and he does a great job; and I believe 99% of people will agree with me. What should have he said instead? Will Bynum puts up a great shot by gets blocked by a terrible person from SJSU? A picture of our defense getting burned time and time again last night? Only thing Will needs is a good haircut

The Griz the "most balanced/talented team" in the league, no way! They have a guard that scores 25-30 a game with a few other role players. I would say they are the 3rd or 4th most talented team IMO.

i see what you're saying but johnson isn't getting near 25-30 a game unless he scored about 60 a game his last few without me noticing. last week he was right around 4th or 5th in the league at about 18 a game. think that qvale kid was next at over 10. but one thing is for sure. the griz are playing great ball right now. they are certainly playing better than the cats. not saying the cats can't win on saturday....but they're gonna have to play way better than they have been. i too think the griz are pretty balanced despite johnson being their main scorer. they have decent big guys that score down low as well as rebound. they have the best 3 point shooter in the league. and in johnson at least the 2nd best guard in the league...maybe the best. there is no doubt they are balanced, and you could make the case that they are playing better than anyone right now. cats are gonna have their hands full, and if we were to get a win against that team, in that building, i would assume that would give our guys a ton of confidence going into the tourney.

Obviously Will did not take the photos, they were taken by a chronicle photographer. So it's difficult to tell what shots they had to choose from.

Did Will get to decide which photos made the article? I don't know the answer to that, but I would guess it was the editor.
Did Will write the captions? Once again, I don't know the answer, but I since the sports editors usually write the headlines, I wouldn't be surprised if they also wrote the captions.

Even if Will did take the pics, decided which pics were worthy of print, and also wrote the caption, I still totally disagree with your criticism. Unlike Jeff Lasky, who is essentially on MSU's payroll, Will isn't paid to be an MSU cheerleader, he's paid to report.

Looking around the State of MT the only other thing I found today was in the Butte Standard which led with "San Jose State Gets Rare Road Win". Again, like Will, just calling it like they saw it.

Yeah, much ado about nothing Jimmy. It was one of those games where all the bounces went the wrong way, layups rimmed out, effort plays got pinballed around and ended up in SJSU's hands or hoop... Just one of those games. Let's hope they got that out of their system before the UM game and BSC Tourney. If they lose the first round home game, no matter who they play, I will be HIGHLY disappointed.
