Homer Griz annoucer for EWU game

Post by MashTun » Sat Oct 06, 2007 3:31 pm

Who is the Homer announcer on the Griz game today?

Not the play by play guy, he's not too bad. The other guy makes me want to puke.

His name's Gurnsy. Great guy. Lived next door to him for a long time in Missoula and he'd give ya the shirt off his back if ya asked for it. But go ahead and bash on him if it makes ya feel better.

It is Bob Hermes, the worst color guy in the world. The guy makes me cringe everytime he spews unintelligent goo from his trap.

I feel like Hermes is going to have a heart attack every time he's on TV.

I liked Gurnsey as a player, but yer right, what a cheeseball anouncer.

I knew it wasn't Gurnsey, this guy had a different deal going.

"Unintelligent goo" ....that's funny. I think you hit it just right.

You could fit 5 Grady Bennets inside of Bob Hermes. Hermes is the worst announcer I have ever head at any level. He is the Phen-Phen of announcers.

Gurnsey on the other hand is a gem, cool as hell and I love the way he does games.

TG - I'm commenting on announcing skills, not whether he's a good buddy or not. The guy on today's EWU game is Hermes, wake up.

Gurnsey, Bennet ,and Hermes all leave a lot to be desired on being hometown announcers WITHOUT being annoying homers. Hermes did reach a new low today. Gurnsey and Bennet at least have decent moments, almost everything Hermes said today was annoying. To quote a griz fan on this thread "unintelligent goo".

Listen to Steve Raible cover the Seahawks on the radio and local Seattle TV to see how it's done.

Bob Hermes

Bob Hermes is last time I checked the General Manager, Station manager, and President for KPAX TV in Missoula (the home station) for the TV rights for the Griz games. Bob fancies him self as a Football expert. He also is one if not the leading force in the Little Griz program in Missoula. The little Griz program has a fall football program as well as summer camps for 5th to 8th graders. It is the main program for kids of that age range in Missoula to play football competitively. Now the teams in the Little griz Program are supposed to be picked at random and balanced, but an amazing thing always happens when the teams are announce every year. It seems that an extremely large number of the summer camp all stars always seems to make it on to Hermes's person team. I bring this up only because Bob take great pride in his coaching prowess, and to back this up he always point to the fact that over the past who knows how long his Little Griz teams have always dominated the league.
So I think you need to quit complaining , Bob has looked hi and low and quite frankly he can not find anyone who he feels is more qualified than himself to hire to do color.

BTW I worked with on a project with a very close relative of Bob's, and this relative could not stand to listen to his color commentary either!

I bet Hermes is one of those pathetic guys that Alpha was griping about in another thread; running around on the field after Griz games, trying to get autographs and/or his picture taken with his Griz "heroes"...

There are undoubtedly hundreds of guys (and even a few gals) walking the streets of Missoula who could do a better job; Hermes is there because of his position with the station and because he WANTS the job, not because he can't find a better color commentator.

I played little griz football and remember my coaches talking about him. The years I played his teams dominated.

Exactly.

I worked at KPAX shortly after college and got the inside scoop on what Hermes did there before he became station manager. He gets the color job because he says so and he wants it.

I don't care if he knows more than John Madden about football that voice disqualifies him from being on air.

Also have a friend that posts on here from time to time who coached little griz football. He called Hermes on his "loading up the best players BS" and has never been "asked/allowed" to coach again after that year.

If you think Bennett is a homer and leaves ANYTHING to be desired for someone covering games at our level, you know nothing about both football and broadcasting. Grady is extremely knowledgable and can explain plays like few at any level can. He is a complete professional, and goes out of his way NOT to be a homer.

As for Raible, are you serious???

Bennet usually does a very good job, but these clowns the last two weeks were ridiculous......put on a skirt and grab a megaphone

My only experience with Bennett is Cat-Griz games, but I actually think that he is normally quite impartial, and does a very good job overall. Gurnsey, on the other hand, I cannot stomach. Isn't he the one who always refers to the Griz as "the good guys"? I don't care if lots of teams hometown announcers use that phrase or not, I think that it is cheesy and unprofessional.
