P.S - I think they might have had 2 first downs in the first half in last game there so I think they missed saying FIRST DOWN and had to chant it for the Bobcats

Obviously I'm little more than a lurker on this particular issue. But I'll weigh in with the argument that the game-day experience one enjoys the most is probably going to occur in one's home stadium, and therefore is a clearly subjective measure.

But I think the points that msucatfan and poorgriz are making regarding the objective measures are accurate, and shouldn't be covered up with 4 pages of discussion about game-day atmosphere. It's true that the Griz facilities are superior. It's true that the Griz marketing is better and more-prevalent than MSU marketing. It's readily apparent that the Griz get better community and business support. It's even true that the Griz have won more consistently. Those points are valid, and if I were a Cat fan, I'd want to know why it's so, and work to change those things. Correct me if I'm wrong, guys, but I believe that's all msucatfan and poorgriz are trying to say.

Totally agree on the marketing! MSU needs to definately do a better job of marketing the FIGHTING BOBCATS!

Apparently the athletic department hired a marketing firm- guess we'll have to see if they perform or not.

A UFC Title match at halftime of every game. We keep 30% of the Pay Per View $. No one would leave the stadium at halftime. Anyone have Dana's number?

Having been to many games in both Bozeman and Missoula (where I don't buy those sold out tickets - because there is the secret passage) I would like to suggest one change to the facilities at Bozeman. That change would move the seating closer to the field where you can feel the concussion from a good hit. If my vision is not too distorted, I'd say the stands are about 10 yards from the sidelines in Missoula (barely enough room for players benches, etc) and in Bozeman you add the running track outside that 10 yards - so the fans are more removed from the play. Move the stands in and I think we have everything we need.

Umm, are you sure you have been to games in Bozeman? There is no track around the field in Bozeman.

As to the distance, agreed UM is closer which is great from a fan perspective, but as you said it seems almost too close as there is barely room for the benches.

OK - So they took the track out and replaced it with grass. (no cheerleader jokes here) - It is just incredible that when in Missoula, one can hear the opposing cheerleaders chastising their DB's that are scattered about the sidelines as they (4 defenders) missed the scat back tiptoeing the sidelines. Something to the effect of "What the hell are you doing ? I could have made that tackle")

So - yes, I was in the visiting team's section when Eastern Kentucky made a trip there during the playoffs (Dickinson Era). And it was quite an experience to be that close to the action. Makes one love the game, even if it is in Missoula. I wish the Bozeman fans could experience the same.

And now that I don't have kids' events to attend, I will make more games. (With or without a running track.)

As a regular from about '75 to '80, the cheerleaders were standing on the track in front of the stands. (Although my recollection may be influenced by the onset of oldtimers and the cumulative effects of small quantities of various libations.) Someone correct me if I was totally whacked at that time and don't remember squat. (OK - I'll admit to being mostly whacked at the games, but I'm pretty certain about the track.)

I remember going to games in the mid-80's and there was no track. However, I thought I saw Elvis on the 50 yard line, then a quirky little elf at the Rockin' R afterwards so you never know.

I went to my first cat game in 78, attended at least one game a year until the mid 80's, I dont ever remember there being a track. I think there used to be endzone seating down where the warming hut is. I dont think there is enough room for a 1/4 mile track. Fields with tracks usually have the stands a loong ways from the field.

Maybe this was already covered and I missed it, I didn't read all 4 pages. I would say most people on Bobcatnation are die hards and don't need a dancing bear, smoke and what ever to get them to a football game because they're there for a football game. But those are exactly the things that get the 10 year old kid and mom with their dad to the game, not just the dad. They get the 20 year old female college student with her boyfriend to the game, not just the boyfriend. I used to get so annoyed at the Griz games, half the people are more interested in Monte and being on the scoreboard then the game. Then I realized that's what makes the bigger crowd and a great game day atmosphere. In my opinion you have to market the non-die hard fans, because win or lose, great facilities or not, the die hards will always be there.
