Funny you weren't saying that before or up to the week that we played. Congrats on the Griz success so far. They have gelled at the most crucial of times and it has shown. I can't see how JMU will be much of a match. I'd be inclined to think the national championship was played today. Please tell me you guys have 7 away games next year.......(I know, wishful thinking).

But this IS the smack board! At least I keep it off the other board for those of you who don't want to read it! :D

Just trying to keep somthing alive through the long off season. Until we can smack each other about who got the best recruits!

Actually what I said was a compliment to the Griz. The Griz are whooping up on people, and I think they will against JMU too. I just meant "let them stay with you for a bit." :)

Do the Griz go 2-3 or 3-2?

Post by PDXKat » Mon Dec 13, 2004 9:25 am

Away from the friendly confines of wagrz, the griz are 2-2. I think they are playing well enough to go 3-2 on the year, but there are questions since they are not used to winning on the road - the last time on the road they lost at PSU. The playoff teams really don't look that good. Kidding aside, the home crowd gives them a huge advantage in the playoffs. SHS has to make 2 trips on consecutive weeks and the um get to stay home for the entire playoff run?. I understand the economics and if you win a lot good things happen. But the NCAA really doesn't put the playoff teams on equal footing. Of course, you won't hear me bitching next year when we do the same thing!

Nope - in fact in addition to having only 4 away games, It sounds like they will have 2 DII teams on the sched. No 1A's.

catatac: I don't think it will hurt the Griz in the polls. I say the Griz host again next year.

It won't matter in the polls, the Griz will just outbid all the other schools and host again. Its the stupid way the NCAA runs their tourney. If I was a Griz fan and hosted all my playoff games to southern teams in the cold .. I WOULD BE PISSED OFF if my team didn't make it to the Championship. Weather/Home field or not, .. having all your games there is a distinct advantage. $$$ talks.

P.S - How many titles did the Griz have before they had their nice stadium given to them by Dennis Washington. $$$$ Talks.

That is all true and the only bad thing about the 1-AA playoff system. It is better than 1-A with the BSC crap but the home field has been huge for the griz this season and the past several for that matter. 14 games played and 10 have been at home. I like those odds every season - especially like you said - facing Southern teams in December.

I must add that obviously the Griz have a very good team this year. I'm not dissing their team at all. But having your playoff games at home (all of them) in the cold of Montana is a DISTINCT ADVANTAGE ... wether it be MSU/ISU/EW etc. I just think it should be a little more fair hosting wise. But, the NCAA is about money and I think for sure they know that UM's stadium can be a nice cash get for them as well.

That being said, if MSU was hosting all these games .. I don't think I would be all that upset :) 3 teams from the west this year in the playoffs .. I can't believe that. Something has to be done about that as Cal Poly as I said before really burns me. They would have beaten 2-4 teams I saw play in the playoffs this year (mostly Eastern Teams).

Exactly. I wasn't saying it would hurt them. In fact you could probably even lose to one of them and still host - (See NDSU). As Cardiac stated - it's all about money and the Griz pull a huge crowd - The NCAA likes this. I guarantee the Bobcats would never get an at-large bid after losing to a DII team.

Regarding next year - I think the Griz success will largely depend on how well the newbies at skill positions perform (Mainly QB & Receiver).

I'm sure some griz idiots (smack board, remember) will take exception to this but I repeat:

The Bobcats, with absolutely nothing left to play for, coming off a devastating loss, still gave the Griz a better game than ANY of the teams they faced in the playoffs!!

I, for one, can't wait until August...

Yet it took you little more than an hour and a half to find your way into this. Speaks volumes.

Count me as one nervous Griz fan looking ahead to next year.

The Big Sky is going to be tough, and the Cats look like they'll play at a better level next year than they did this year.

I'll give you guys credit where its due, you've got a great offense with a defense that could be a question mark next year. That was EWU's situation this past year, and look how far they went this year.
