Yes remax, I can HONESTLY say that if we were on the 3 yard line and had Lex Hilliard gobbling up 5 yards per carry and there was less than 3 minutes left, I would say Kramer was both an idiot and a bit classless to try the same play that hauck tried.
I was at the game and certainly felt the griz should have tried to score at that time. I just felt that hauck knew he could score and chose to try a way that would rub it in a bit. As shown, this backfired as he could have easily scored with a conventional run.
And just knowing Kramer a bit and his honor for the game, I would honestly also say I would be shocked if Kramer would have ever run those two plays if the tables were turned.
As a Cat, I may not have complained if the shoe was on the other foot as you say here, but I certainly would be able to admit that my coach was trying to rub it in a bit.

You wouldn't have heard complaints because Kramer wouldn't have done that. If he had, I know that I wouldn't be happy and would say so - and I know, easy to say, but I think that you must at least demand class out of your coaches.
The fact remains that had Hack given the ball to Hilliard, he probably would have scored again - and if he hadn't, the griz could still have kicked a FG and gone up by 3 scores, effectively putting the game out of reach. You just can't argue that...

Looks like there are enough sour grapes on this thread to make a nice bottle of wine. Or would that be "whine"? Look, this conversation is ridiculous. Lets hypothetically say that Waller throws a nicer pass to Walden and the Griz score on that play. How does that make the Cats look any worse than if Hauck had let Lex run the ball in? If anything, it makes the Cats look better because it gives the false impression that we needed to resort to a trick play to score. Maybe Hauck was just doing the kitties a favor. Instead of being angry with Hauck, maybe you should direct it toward Kramer for having your team in a position of potential "embarrasment" in the first place.

Trust me, I am glad they backfired, ree.
But that doesn't change the thought-process (or lack thereof) behind calling those plays. Smelled like "rubbing it in" to me.
Point is: To paraphrase a quote from Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, there are 500 coaches in America who could do what hauck has done in Missoula given the talent & tradition he was handed. Whether you want to admit it or not, the majority of the talent that goes to dUMb to play football is NOT going there because booby caulk is a great coach. They are going because of the winning tradition and the chance to be a part of it and also due in large part to the excellent "game day" experience in Missoula.
I'm a died-in-the-wool Bobcat but I don't have a problem admitting that the atmosphere in Missoula on autumn Saturdays is pretty tough to beat. I LOVE watching games at Bobcat stadium (and I've pretty much sat in ALL vantage points there) but I'm pretty sure any NON-BIASED observer would rate the griz game-day experience above ours. Given that, the fact that we have successfully recruited the 34 Montana kids currently on our roster (compared to the griz 46) is a testament to Coach Kramer's & his staff's abilities. I feel they start in a heck of a hole yet I'd say they're doing a pretty fine job nonetheless...

well, bearaxed,
I find it interesting that A) the most impartial fans I've spoken with feel that was the case and B) a significant # of griz fans I see on a daily basis felt that way as well.
Hmm, let's see, we need one more score to ice a win over the Cats, our running game has been working well and grinding up both yards & time, our quarterback has been throwing the ball well...
I KNOW! Let's try a couple of halfback passes to try & seal the deal!
Makes perfect sense. And to answer an earlier post, I'm pretty certain in MOST knowledgeable football fans' minds, scoring that final TD via a gadget play DEFINITELY would have felt more like rubbing it in versus a traditional run/run/throw drive...
beara.ssed, why don't you go back over to egriz & enjoy your playoff run instead of constantly reminding us what a total dipsh.it & a.sshole you are.
moderators, sorry for the personal attack but this guy desperately needs to be bi.tch-slapped!

Hmmm - I did not know that Jerry Jones paid attention to Griz football.El_Gato wrote:Trust me, I am glad they backfired, ree.

Wow What a case of "We poor kittens", you're displaying. Was the kitten football program in such poor shape this year, that your Griz envy has driven you to the point of hoping you can convince someone that the Griz were trying to run the score up on your poor team?
bearassed - lets fase it - it was a stupid classless move to even think about passing when your running game could have put the game on ice.. BTW i remember reading a quote from Bobby Hauck blameing everyone else but his team for last years defeat in the cat-griz game

bearback I would hate to admit it but winning and looseing with class is part of football. Besides, in 5 years i would like to see where the two are...more then likley fired from a D1A team that hired them *along the lines of a Utah State or El-Sucko U university - only teams that are interested in BCS coaches...so i guess this convo is pointless. It pisses me off as a fan of both schools to admit this...I will root for the U in all games unless they are playing for the good guys....i am not like most cats fans
