I should have called my subject another bobcat

Post by drider64 » Sat Dec 30, 2006 11:52 am

Looking at some of the other posts, I guess you could say Dan is a second generation Bobcat. For those of you that don't know, Dan is my step-son but it just feels like he is my own. I have been the "dad" of his life for over 6 years now. I graduated from MSU 20 years ago. I didn't pressure him on his choice but I think he understood how proud I would be if he were to become a Cat. With another step-son that was a preferred walk-on at "that other Montana school", it made it a difficult choice. Being close to watch games is one thing, but finding the right fit was what really made the difference. It really was the coaches that made his choice the best for him. I am one proud dad.

As you should be! Not sure if you have heard the story about when Hoff told Hauck he was coming to MSU, but it is one funny story! :D

Hoff

Post by drider64 » Sat Dec 30, 2006 12:06 pm

Yes, Hoff told us the story. I think his whole family called on a regular basis to tell Dan how great MSU was to them. Dan and Hoff's younger brother are good friends. They have played together at Hoopfest in Spokane for the last 4 or 5 years.

I would love to hear that story on how Hoff told Hauck about his choice of MSU.

Great news and congratulations Dan. My nephew attended bobcat camp with him and said he was definitely worthy of a scholarship.

Things are looking great for the cats and for the future

We land another great player from the Flathead and looks like the kids from the Flathead are looking at MSU now

We land another player from Billings West. Seems like Bilings West is becoming a great recruiting center for us and quality kids.

Possilbe great player from Belgrade landed today and now have had a great history of players from Belgrade

If we can now land Bignell from Helena Capital we will be beginning a trend with Helena Capital linebackers which will always be available in the future and well coached. (Daly, O'Connell, Bignell) going forward (another Bignell, Lamping, etc)

I like where we are going. keep it going Kramer

Yes, the coaches need to kiss some a$$ with the Skyview coach. With his son's going to the the Griz, it will be hard to break the tradition.

I don't see any reason spending alot of time with either Skyview or Helena High when the coaches push the players to UM. spend our time on teams we know we have a chance on. If we can wrap up the sources at Flathead, Helena Capital, Billings West, Belgrade, Fairfield, Braudus, etc

we have the state pretty much surrounded. let UM have Helena High and Billings Skyview until those coaches leave.

LoyalCat, I am sure that the kids will still go to where they believe is the best opportunity for them, but it really helps the Cats this year because the Griz have so few scholarships to offer. I believe I read that Dan Ogden still had interest in the Griz but because of the limited schollies to offer they pulled it. He may very well still have verballed to the Cats. I also believe Bignell was in the same situation, the Griz received verbals from Hustad and Fetherston, they pulled many from recruits from these postitions to hit on others. The Cats should have a pretty good year recruiting in Montana.

whatever the reason is for UM is great for us and once we get them started our way hopefully they all start following kids they played with in High School

I hope this year puts to bed the issue of MSU never recruits in MT, they always have and now the lack of scholarships at UM has caught up to them and MSU is on a roll

But LoyalCat, you must remember that the Griz have many schollies for the next year, what looks to be around 25. So I would say that this will help the Cats in state this year, but to say it has caught up with them, like the Griz will lose ground because of it makes very little sense.

Maybe not caught up, but catching up. MSU is doing better with in state kids now than it was 6-7 years ago. The better MSU does on the field, in the stands and with facilities, the better it does with recruiting.

This years group has many that will have followers next year and the cats will have additional scholarships next year also.

It appears the cats have done a great job balancing scholarships year to year and not shorting themselves
