Let's get someone with regional exposure, not just Lewis and Clark County. The people in the State are aware of Van Diest, elsewhere not so much!
b.s. You mean to tell me that Van Diest's level of success at Carroll has not been noticed nationwide? A feat that has only been accomplished once before in the history of college football, and you're telling me nobody outside of Montana knows about Van Diest? Get real! In case you haven't been reading the posts, I'll post his history here again...
Van Diest is a 1970 graduate of Helena High School. His career has included stops at his alma mater, the University of Wyoming, the University of Montana, the University of Massachusetts, and Big Ten representative, Northwestern University as an assistant coach. Van Diest has won titles at Montana (Big Sky Conference Champions, 1982), Wyoming (Two Western Athletic Conference Championships and one Pacific Division Championship), Massachusetts (Yankee Conference Champions, 1986) and now six Frontier Conference Championships at Carroll, as well as the 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2005 NAIA National Championships.
And to all the naysayers out there who say former NAIA (specifically Carroll) coaches can't be successful, I would like to throw out the names John Gagliardi (winningest coach in NCAA history, albeit Div. III, St. Johns University), and former assistant coaches, Bobby and Paul Petrino.... anybody ever heard of them? All I'm saying is don't discount Van Diest before he's even been given the opportunity to apply.
