ASU Playoff Game pictures

Post by SanDiego » Mon Dec 04, 2006 9:40 am

I have placed a couple of pictures on the Nation gallery for your enjoyment from the ASU playoff game.

Being a night game and stuck up in the 15th row of the stands, kind of hard to get good pictures due to light limitations, but better than nothing.

Use the link below to get to this year's pictures, and go to the ASU Playoff game link.

From some of the stories of how our fans were treated I don't know if you would have wanted to go. I will save the stories for later as now isn't the time for them, but if the Griz are playing these guys we can give them some ideas on what to expect.

This picture is a posed picture. Good nature stuff.

The story starts with real plain cloths cops driving by, seeing hard alcohol on a tail gate and they stop and give a ticket. No warning, no good nature treatment, just nasty. As it turns out, Only Beer and Wine allowed in Boone county. So the Bailey's in some coffee cost a couple hundred. Those pictures are not posted.

This picture is making fun of that event. The officer in the picture was a high class guy and helped us in multiple areas. Now the two Cat fans, they are just having fun, but it made me a little worried because they obviously were very use to the process and experienced in spreading out for a body check  :suds:

The mountains are small, b/c they are old. In fact given the age of the Appalachian Mountains, it is a mystery they even exist, as they should have eroded away to nothing by now. Unlike those young whiper-snapper mountains called the Rockies, the Appalachians will last for many geologic ages to come.

On a somewhat related note the creeks you walked around on campus help form the New River, which some think is the oldest river, or one of the oldest rivers in the world. Let's face it, these small mountains just don't give up.

BTW, you really did take some nice pics of the campus. The state passed some bonds a few years ago and ASU did a lot of new building and also making all the old buildings have a common look with the new green roofs, which I find gives the campus a clean, fresh, unified look. It has also been a little wetter and warmer than average, which has helped keep things green later in the year than I remember from my time at ASU.

One last item, as I am most likly not coming back to this board - moving on to the next game. I am sorry so many MSU fans felt they were treated poorly. I certainly appreciated the fact some of you made it across the continent. Not a cheap trip, and not a short trip either.

A beer and wine only county? How/why do people vote for stuff like that?

That sucks that it cost a fan from a freer part of the country several hundred dollars for an honest mistake.

I am back for one last post. :)

The county is Watauga, and town of Boone is the county seat. The other towns and villages in the county have, as far as I know beer, wine and hard liquor sales at restuarant, and ABC stores. The town of Boone has beer and wine in restaurants and all three at the ABC store (I though). I am not a big drinker at all and prefer to spend my money on so many other things but I do remember making one run to the ABC store in Boone when I was at ASU and I don't remember getting drunk off beer or wine - so I think they sell hard liqour in Boone. Not sure why a public display of beer or wine is ok but not good old whiskey. One would think a tourist town like Boone would at least give a warning to visitors, unless they are rude and obnoxious, and we have laws to deal with that also, as every jurisdiction does for public drunkeness.

The county of Watauga outside of the cities may be dry completely, (I am not sure) but even there having no alcohol sales does not make possession illegal, it just means one has to go to a city or town nearby that sales what you desire.

This issue has been on the ballot more than a few times in Boone, and what they have now is more open to alcohol sales than what was there in the past. The Dry-Wet issue can still stir strong feelings in the Bible belt, not just the mountain areas.

If every student at ASU would register in the Boone jurisdiction, I imagine the law would get changed, but that never happens.

Excellent point. I hope she didn't have to post bond or anything on the spot.

How long do they keep the records there in Boone? I am assuming we won't end up in Boone for a long time, they will play in our house for quite some time!

The last thing I want to do is to stir up any more animosity toward ASU, but I'd really like to hear those stories. I managed to speak to a good number of the MSU fans there, both before and after the game, and they were all very complimentary of the way they were treated by ASU fans. I'm not insinuating that nothing happened, just asking where and when because I honestly didn't hear about any of it. The only way we, as ASU fans, can stop stupid stuff from happening in the future is to know about it. If you don't feel the details are suitable for the message board, I'd appreciate it if you'd e-mail me. Thanks.
