The jury is in and they have ruled in favor of Jack McGillis. They investigated the rumors that both the Bobcats and Grizzlies could have signed him in a Montana minute and chose not to. The rumors were and are very, very true and after seeing the game, they are very disappointing. Jack McGillis is the truth. He was one of the best athletes and most aggressive defenders on the floor yesterday. Mick Durham was in the stands yesterday and I am very glad he was. He got a front row seat in seeing what he passed on. The funny thing is, is that both current head coaches of the Bobcats and the Grizzlies were in full favor of McGillis and offering a full-ride when they were both assistants. I guess they didn't have enough pull. I know now though, they wish they did.

Dont be surprised if Jack still ends up wearing a bobcat jersey......
not that i'm trying to start any rumors, and i'm not going to say any names of people that I know and talk to- but there is a good chance that jack could be playing for the cats next season... I'll leave it at that, but I think people who went to the game got a taste of what he could bring to the bobcats if he did transfer.

Not to comment on any rumors that you're not starting, but can players transfer from school to school in basketball without losing any eligibility ... and can they play right away? I don't know the answer, but my gut would tell me that the answer isn't a good one.mslacatfan wrote:Dont be surprised if Jack still ends up wearing a bobcat jersey......

Interesting, I was wondering if our current staff could pull him to Bozeman. I noticed after the game Danny Sprinkle walked Jack off the court and was talking to him the whole way. That would be great to see him playing in Bozeman. His family alone made up half the crowd!mslacatfan wrote:Dont be surprised if Jack still ends up wearing a bobcat jersey......

I will take you up on that bet and give you 10:1.... not make that 20:1 odds. He will not be playing for the Cats next year, even if he did transfer (and I am not saying there is much of a chance). He would have to sit out a year after transferring, so even if he transferred today, he would not be eligible until 2008-09. Ok a technicality but still...
Now about Jack transferring. On the plus side Jacks father was a 6-7 Bobcat football player, so he does have Montana State ties. Still though during his recruitment he always thought Wayne Tinkle and Scott Carson were his favorite coaches. He really was comfortable with Tinkle. His family is a pretty close knit unit and is also VERY connected with people in Missoula. Furthermore he hung out a great deal this summer with Jordan Hasquet and other Griz players. About him transferring at all, I did talk with one of his family members late summer, and it was my impression that Jack really likes the state of Oregon and OSU. He has also got a fairly good fan base, as the little school kid who works hard, plays well and does it all in a very humble way. On the plus side of him transferring, anyone want to put money on whether his coach is brought back next year if they don't get better? They have also recruited quite a few Oregon based "name" kids the last few years at his position and the thought is if push comes to shove who will get the playing time? The local kids or the guy from Montana.
The idea of Mcgillis transferring anywhere, I think wholly hinges on whether current head coach job. If he is retained at the end of the year or forced make major changes in his program. Then you come down to where he wants to play, and who has a spot for him.
That is still too many ifs, ands, and buts for me to hold my breath.
BTW: One advantage MSU has over the Griz. No members from the Bobcat football team jumped Jack in a bar this summer! The Griz can not say that.

Last summer the Stocks Bar in Missoula was awash in Griz basketball and football players. I am told, though, that this fall Tinkle banned ALL players from the Stocks and most other down town bars. Maybe Hauck too, I just don't know.Bay Area Cat wrote:Don't they ask for I.D. in Missoula bars at all?

well obviously you know jack fairly well, as do I. And I pretty much agree with what you said. All I was saying is that there is a chance he could transfer.
One reason he might transfer, which i think is very important, is that jack misses MT and all his close friends who all attend MSU. now I'm not trying to get into an argument with you over who knows jack better (cause thats just retarded). But I do think jack would be happier at MSU, closer to all his family and friends, he would also have a much bigger impact on the bobcat team rather than on the OSU team. anyway, just my opinion. And like you said, whatever the "odds" are, there is a chance.
Oh, and I also have to throw this in about the incident at the bar last summer that you mentioned- The griz F-ball program and Bobby Hauck can kiss my A** for letting their players get away with what they did to jack!

Lets just see how this season plays out for Jack...Going into to next year i think if Jack doesn't see progress with the team, coach and himself there could be a possible transfer. I'm not saying that Jack would come to Bozeman, but like mslacatfan, i think MSU would be high on Jack's list. He as friends here and family right down the road. I also think mslacat is correct when he says right now Jack is happy with the beavers but he does miss the good ol Montana...The odds are slim to none but i could see it happening....NO RUMOR JUST A THOUGHTmslacatfan wrote:mslacat wrote:mslacatfan wrote:Dont be surprised if Jack still ends up wearing a bobcat jersey......
