Fire Kramer!......No wait

Post by Cat-theotherwhitemeat » Tue Nov 21, 2006 7:26 pm

When the Cats lost their 3rd game earlier this year there were a lot of BNer's calling for his head. I don't know why it seems easier to criticize when things are bad, then to praise when things are good.

Kramer has done a great job, especially when you consider he lost an incredible qb from the year before.

Kudo's to Kramerica!

This is probably a smack board thread, but I stuck by Kramer 100% and never once wavered. I said I'd only speak on the subject to defend him, and even that wasn't necessary once people calmed down a bit after that bad stretch.

What I don't get is why people on Egriz complain about Hauck or want Phenicie fired. It's crazy to me that there are threads dedicated to this non-subject (in my eyes) on your board.

I was one calling for Kramer's head. I admit it. I've been wishing for the last two years he would leave once I saw the program plateau in the 6-5 and 7-4 area. I'm still not 100% persuaded he's the best MSU can do but I've come to realize the bashing is counterproductive.

Furthermore, I would be remiss in not acknowledging the turn around since EWU. There's been a fantastic effort across the board to address a lot of the things (not all) I ripped on Kramer for: turnovers, media poop talk, trick plays.

I think there's still a lot of work to be done, but isn't there always? (Think QB sneak on Nth down and inches, reducing penalties, and time out management)

Just gotta get to work on that D-II record.

I suppose if the choice were mine, and I had to pick between Kramer and a total butt snorkeler like Hauck, I'd take Kramer in half a heartbeat.

I was also one who was calling for his dismissal. And to be completely honest I dont think the bobcats will become back to back to back playoff contenders until Kramer is replaced with a coach that is capable of putting the right personel on the field.

Can we end this thread, please, at least for four more weeks? After we beat the Friz for the national title, then we can discuss Kramer's, Bailey's, and whomever else's heads folks want on plates.

I'm sticking with the fire Kramer chants.

One cannot deny that the Bobcats home playoff game is a huge gift. Yes, the Bobcats should make the most of it. But, if Kramer did his job in the non-conference season the 'Cats could have a top-four seed.

It's time to give the losingest coach in the history of the Big Sky Conference the heave-ho.

I think Kramer is great head of the football program. He is not good special teams coach and he has too much loyality. The one coach who needs go is Baily. Maybe he will get a better gig this winter. Please lord.

This thread isn't about firing anyone or about who should be coaching. It's just about being fair. Kramer took a lot of heat for some crappy times. Maybe he deserved it. I'm just saying if you can critisize in bad times you should be able to praise in good, that's all.

After the season is over, if you still want Kramer out, then it's your opinion and you have every right to it. I just think Kramer deserves a little kudos for the teams recent play and playoff home game. Try not to break it down and analyze it too much.

Rock on. :)

Thanks Cat, for posting something I was thinking about earlier today as well. I think we, as Bobcat fans, sometimes fail to see the big picture, because we are so intense in our support for the Bobcats. The "Fire Kramer" lines earlier this year, and their apparent turn around, is a perfect example.

I think most fans, Governor Schweitzer being one of them (did you see him on the MSU sideline?, recongnize the positive impact Mike Kramer has had on not only Bobcat football, but Montana State University as well. So maybe we need a new punting scheme, but you can't buy that kind of charisma (Or do you spell charisma with BS?)

Either way, I think he will be leaving big shoes to fill if he ever leaves or retires.

Go Bobcats!

Did you see him with his arm around Bobby Hauck at the post game? Quite a politician ...but not a real Bobcat

I get a kick out of some of the ****** stains over on egriz. Some try and insult the Cats and you have quite a big population of Griz fans telling them to get bent... defending the Cats. It's pretty cool.

In my book, Kramer's got a lifetime contract; the guy may not be the next Bear Bryant on gameday, but when you take into account EVERYTHING he does for & means to Bobcat Athletics, he's the best we've ever had.

HOWEVER, I am going to take this opportunity to discuss my displeasure with our offensive preparation/gameplan/adjustments in the Griz game last Saturday.

I sat in the North End Zone and it really gave me a great view of what the Griz were doing on D. They played 2-deep or Cover 2 almost the entire game and yet we still never really committed to running the football, even though the game was NEVER out of reach. I'd say 90% of the time we lined up on O, it was clear that the Griz safeties were more concerned with doubling up Jefferson, Wheaton, and Lewis than they were with our running game; when we did run, it was generally to the outside and their speed allowed them to get to the line of scrimmage in time to make a play.

Preparation/gameplan: Look, Cal Poly ran for more than twice as many yards this season as we did and judging by their game vs the Griz, they focused most of their rushing attack on the perimeter. In their 10 non-Griz games, they averaged 193 yards rushing; they got less than half that vs the Griz (85 yards). So, I think it's safe to say that Poly was a better running team than we are and yet they had very little success running their perimeter attack against the Griz. I haven't rewatched the game but I'm guessing well over half our runs were pitches to/toward the outside. I remember only ONE time all game where we ran on consecutive downs; it was in the 2nd qtr and Mason picked up 13 yards on the 2 carries BETWEEN THE TACKLES; I never saw us rush 2 plays in a row again and saw FAR too few straight ahead plays. DIDN'T WE BEAT THEM IN 05 BY SIMPLY SLAMMING GROVES DOWN THEIR THROATS??? You DON'T beat a speedy D by running the edges; if it takes your RB a few seconds to get to the outside and back to the line of scrimmage, a fast D has plenty of time to get there to meet him. Any modest student of the game knows that you run straight ahead against a fast D; get your back to the line of scrimmage BEFORE the D can get there. How many times in the second half did you see Mason easily get through the line WITHOUT THE BALL on play-action passes? I'm not saying the Griz wouldn't have reacted differently had he actually taken the handoff, but the point is he was getting to/past the line untouched.

Adjustments: I saw NONE on the O side of the ball in the second half. We kept trying to run the perimeter and chuck the long ball. Our play-action attempts were worthless; the Griz safeties & even their Middle LB on a lot of plays were simply playing the pass and not even remotely biting on the fakes. We just kept throwing the ball into a defense that was SPECIFICALLY designed to stop our passing game. Yes, we have some amazing talent in our passing game but the bottom line is their pass D was better on Saturday.

Given that the game was NEVER out of reach, I'm still amazed that we didn't take a series or two (or more) and just see if we could outman the Griz up front. JMU did it in the 04 title game and we did it in 05; it's almost as if we completely forgot to look at the film of those 2 Griz LOSSES.

Sorry for the rant; I've just been needing to get this off my chest. I'm not calling for anyones head; just saying I was disappointed with our gameplan on O.

Had you told me we'd only give up 13 AT WaGriz, I'd have started celebrating immediately...

Was it the game plan? Or was it he dropped balls, missed blocks and poorly thrown balls. It doesn't matter what the plan is, if it isn't executed you don't succeed.

I'm not saying there weren't mistakes by players, there ALWAYS are but IMO, we played right into the STRENGTH of the Griz D instead of the one area they've shown themselves to be vulnerable in big games in recent years.

If you truly think our gameplan was sound but it was the players mistakes that cost us, ask yourself this: how many times did you see Jefferson, Wheaton, or Lewis in single coverage? The bottom line is the Griz were daring us to run yet we just kept chucking the rock. When we did run, again it was to the Griz's strength - outside the tackles.

I know there were 3 huge drops in the game (1 by Bostick, 2 by MJ) but IMO, they shouldn't have (and probably didn't) cost us the game.

I have to agree totally with EG on this. I have been saying it all year long. Run the ball right at them. Run the ball right at everyone. I love Hirst and Jensen, but they are not the pushers that the 3 guys in the middle are. Our RB's are quick to the hole and can get 4-7 yards a pop up the middle. I would love to see the statistics on our running plays. I would guess maybe 3-4 yards around the end and 5-7 yards up the middle (I really don't think that is true, but trying to make a point). When we pound it on people you can see the defense on their heels.
