Thank You Griz Fans
Well, we made the trip up and back yesterday and I must say even though the game didn't turn out how I wanted it to, I had a great time!! For the most part the Griz fans were friendly or at least not disrespectful. I think both teams have our select few "idiots" but for the most part the respect among fans has turned the corner. Thanks for making yesterday's classic game a fun one to watch at WaGriz.

Yesterday was an amazing day. Lots of respect from the fans in maroon. Except for the few guys that took a swing at my hat while entering and exiting the stadium. My frinds and I were so proud to wear our blue and gold, too bad only one team could win at the end.

I also wanted to say thanks to all the Griz fans that I met yesterday at the game. MOST were extremely classy people who were excited to see a good, close football game (as was said earlier, there are morons on BOTH sides0. Like most Cat fans on here, I was obviously hoping for a different outcome, but I was glad that overall it was a good game to watch with fans who are just as passionate about their team as I am. Even the fans downtown were classy with only good natured ribbing. Thanks again Griz fans!
Side note kind of related, also thanks to all the fans who have come to congratuate the Cats on their playoff birth!

I agree, had a great time in Missoula and enjoyed 100% of the Bobcat fans and 98% of the Griz fans. Fantastic day and a very, very hard fought game. Lots of good tailgates, plan to go back for next Cat/Griz game in Missoula. Overall, good hospitality. Thanks!
Now that we are in the playoffs, the loss really doesn't hurt near as bad. The game could have went either way. Playoffs are like a new season now. WE'RRRRRREE BAAAAAAACKKKKKK!

I'm happy to hear that most of the fans enjoyed a great football game. I watched it on ESPN pay per view, so I have no idea what was happening in the stands. It is truly refreshing to know that civility (for the most part from the sounds of it) ruled the day.
Congratulations Bobcats on getting the playoff invite and by all means, fill the stadium on Saturday and make Bozeman proud. In my book, nothing would be better than an all Montana championship game in Chattanooga.

Had a couple run-ins in the stadium, but overall I was treated with alot of respect and the fans at Reds were great. I was able to have multiple conversations with strangers about the outcome and a few missed calls. I won't say that I'm rooting for the Griz, but it would be fun to see that be the national championship and being on opposite sides it could happen.
Family is family forever, until they become a Griz fan.

Concur - I was treated pretty well for the most part. One guy in front of me needed to get cracked in the mouth at the end when they sacked Carpenter on 4th down... he was right up in my face screaming, "F#$& ya, that's how you do it pu$$ies... Bobcats suck!" And he was getting a little spit on me.
Fortunately I'm very non-confrontational, so I just forced a big smile and said, "Good Game" and left the stadium...

I have to say that I had a higher than average number of run-ins with idiots this year at WA-Grizzly. It was mostly young college kids running their mouths so I took it with a grain of salt. The college kids are one thing but the 50-something-year-old that started randomly taunting us and telling us to get back to Bozeman because we're losers is a little over the top. It puts a little damper on the experience but it was still a great day and an awesome, hard-hitting football game.
Go Cats! FTG!

I thought the Cat fans were cordial as well.catatac wrote:Concur - I was treated pretty well for the most part. I did see this big f'in monster of a cat wearing a t-shirt that said "Muck Fissoula" on the front and "Eat sh#T Grizzlies" on the back. I had to laugh because I don't think there was anyone big enough to say something to him. I could barely read the letters as they were stretched.
Dude was huge..must have been a redshirt linemen. I dunno?
Twas' a hell of a game!

This is too bad because it was a great game. I actually hammered on a couple of younger gentlemen for taunting some Cat fans as they were leaving. I can't stand that crap. But in 02 both my wife and I nearly went fistacuffs with some Cat fans as they were out of line after breaking "The Streak". My wife may not be a heavy hitter, but she is a Butte girl and I know she would have kicked the cr*p out of that supposed Cat fan. We all know there are jerks on both sides. And I. like most of the people I was around welcomed in Cat fans to tailgate before and after the game, and treated them with the respect they deserved.NoGriz wrote:I have to say that I had a higher than average number of run-ins with idiots this year at WA-Grizzly. I had almost exactly the same experience. Taunting from the college kids I expected and just laughed off, but getting threatened by a guy in his mid 50's ("get those thundersticks out of my view or I'm going to kick you ass!")...give me a break. Its a good thing his wife calmed him down because there wasn't a doubt in my mind that I could take him. Thanks to all the Griz who won with class, good luck next week.NoGriz wrote:I have to say that I had a higher than average number of run-ins with idiots this year at WA-Grizzly. With the exception of the outcome, I enjoyed the game. Almost all the Griz fans were great - good luck, etc. before the game, and a lot of handshakes and comments on how good the cats played afterwords. The only complaint that I had was the lady sitting in front of my 6 year old son and myself made several comments to us in the first three quarters - telling my son to be quiet, compaining of getting a headache from his yells, and griping about his thundersticks. Her headache seemed to magically get better and her attitude changed after the Griz got ahead

It seems that there are two schools of thought among fans.
There is one group that goes to games, and looks to accentuate the positives of the majority of the good people they encounter and note the minor annoying/obnoxious people for the pesky abberations they are, and then moving back to discussing the positive.
And then there are the people whose sole purpose is to identify the negative aspects of that minority group of obnoxious fans and exaggerate it in order to make the "other side" look bad when they tell their tales.
I love to hear fans coming away from a game that their team lost who can still focus on the positive as opposed to obsessing on the negatives of a very small minority of the people they encountered. This is the sign of the kind of person that I think most of us would like to hang out with ... and I am always happy to see so many of those kinds of fans posting on this board!
