Furman Paladins Scouting Report
Furman was runner-up to No.1 ranked Appalachian State in the Southern Conference. They are a pricate school and their roster has kids from all over the south. The most predominant states for recruiting are Georgia and their home South Carolina. I am sure, like the other southern schools we have played, they will come in here with great team speed. They will throw the ball, but they much prefer to run it. They have 29 touchdowns rushing compared to only 7 through the air. They have two primary runners with one of them, Jerome Felton, picked as a 1st team pre-season all american at fullback. He is 6-0 248 pounds and extremely physical. He scored 22 touchdowns this season and 17 last year. Their other back is Cedrick Gipson(5-9 200) who seems like more of an outside threat. They start Renaldo Gray at quarterback. He is 6-0 238 lbs, so I am sure he is physical too. He has only thrown 3 touchdowns all year. He has run it about 60 times, but not for a lot of yards. This is a start on getting to know our opponent. They lost badly to Appalachian State (40-7). They have a lot of solid wins and only lost to North Carolina 45-42.

They way they made it sound on the CSN WAVE this morning is that Furman has been hit with the injury bug really bad. The way our defense has been playing I'm not worried about their offense...I just hope we can put some points up on the board.
PS...what's a PALADIN???

A Paladin I believe is a Knight. It has both a mythological meaning and a historical meaning, but I believe it is a fancy name for a knight. I am not positive, but I think that is correct.torrybruce wrote:They way they made it sound on the CSN WAVE this morning is that Furman has been hit with the injury bug really bad. Well here's to clever nicknames...
in case any one was wondering...a Bobcat is...
The Bobcat (Lynx rufus, or commonly felis rufus) is a wild cat native to North America. They are found mostly in the United States, southern Canada, and northern Mexico. The bobcat is an adaptable animal that inhabits wooded areas as well as semi-desert, urban, and swampland environments - GOT THIS FROM WIKIPEDIA.
Not as clever as a Paladin, but still damn ferocious!!!

Is Felton injured? I've been saying this since last year, and I said it on another thread here, but Felton is the top FB in all of college football, any division.

He hurt his ankle in the UTC game and it's been a lingering issue. I think this past week off will go a long way to getting him healthy (as well as the other 15 or so guys that are banged up now).CelticCat wrote:Is Felton injured? I love having Felton, but as far as being the top FB is college football goes...I think Brian Leonard from Rutgers would have to at least tie Felton. With that said, I wouldn't trade Felton. He's the perfect fit for our offense. Thanks for the kind words though.

I have a gut feeling that the kickoff being moved to 11:30 has to have something to do with television coverage. I know last year if you snooped around enough on the fox sports network you could find almost all of the playoff games.

Thanks for the kind words - yes, he (our only pro prospect) has been hurt with a high ankle sprain for about four weeks now as has our QB. Notice the dropoff in our O production after Wofford?:CelticCat wrote:Is Felton injured? Last year as well? Gad, I thought Southern Illinois had a pretty good FB last year in Brandon Jacobs, all 6' 4" & 260 lbs. of him; listed as #27 on the NFL New York Giants team roster. Or was that two years ago?I've been saying this since last year, and I said it on another thread here, but Felton is the top FB in all of college football, any division.

Jacobs graduated 2 years ago. Jacobs was amazing while at SIU, and he's pretty darn good for the Giants now. Felton and Jacobs are similar runners. Jacobs probably has more speed, but they're both punishing short yardage backsWyomingGrizFan wrote:Last year as well?
