We BETTER not let the Griz...
Sit back in the pocket with no pressure on Swogger. If we do not get good defensive front push and DE or LB pressure on their QB then he will get some key plays under his belt and it will be our downfall.
The defensive key is to disrupt their passing rythym, get Swogger moving and play disciplined DB defense. If we do, then I think we get some INT's and force them to beat us with Cole Berquist.

It seems that pinning your ears back has worked all year on the Griz. The last game against UNC the Griz finally started running some screens, mis-directions, and quick dump-off's to the tight end which could nix that idea.
However, if I'm coaching the Bobcats they blitz early and often. I think that gives the Cats the best chance to win. If Swogger has all day back there the Griz will win, no question.

I too noticed the screens and misdirection which is what you do to handle the pressure of an aggressive defense. We will need to consider that, but if we don't harrass the Griz QB's alot, we lose.
I think we will get pressure on Swogger far more than the Griz are prepared for and we will get a defensive TD off it.

I don't know how you are going to do that! We been blitzed to death this year and I'm sure we'll expect that from you as well. Blitzing the Griz often for success hasn't been a secret for well over a year now.catsrback76 wrote: I think we will get pressure on Swogger far more than the Griz are prepared for
IMO the game hing on how successful the cats can blitz.....

Yep, there will be some rolling of the dice etc. as far as disguising I think and when to come and when not too etc. If they bring the house they need to go full out and hold back 25% of the time I think as you know the Griz will have some misdirection in there. Our DL/LB's need to be ready for those quick hits the other way and delay draw screens/shuffle passes in the middle. Of course I see the CATS running those same type of plays though. It will be interesting to see who can make the big plays etc.catsrback76 wrote:I too noticed the screens and misdirection which is what you do to handle the pressure of an aggressive defense. It should be quite the chess game. The Cats cannot afford to lose big power pieces early though and get behind or it could be CHECK MATE! So I see us coming out and playing pretty conservative at first with a little mix and match in there at the righ times. Kramer and Co. usually seem to call a very good game or Cat/Griz and when to be aggressive on what they see against different formations etc. It's gonna be exciting!
One thing I will be very happy to see is a healthy Kolone in there. He has been nicked up for 3-4 games with his ankle and it should be ready to go. That should really help us with not only our rush/pass defense, but it should add a lot more depth to us as well as we can cycle more guys in and out. We are healthy on defense baby (minus claggett).
PIN THOSE EARS BACK! AND HIT!

Have you SEEN our offensive line? (Hint: it's between our receivers and looks like Swiss cheese)

I think they have been playing better as of late. we need to poke some holes and make Swogger nervous and impulsive...and I think we will.SeeHarg wrote:Please.catsrback76 wrote:We better not let the Griz sit back in the pocket with no pressure on Swogger.

What's the difference between you and a mallard with a cold? One's a sick duck. I can't remember how it ends but your mother's a whore.

I have not gotten to see Montana play this year. Do you really think the cats have the edge on the O-line?SeeHarg wrote:Please.catsrback76 wrote:We better not let the Griz sit back in the pocket with no pressure on Swogger.

Re: We BETTER not let the Griz...
It is a toss up IMO. Our O Line has to protect better than against UNC in order for Rolovich to get the ball out. Their DE's are fast and good. Our D Line has got to push them back and our LB's flash through for sacks and hurries otherwise Swogger gets comfortable.Weltercat wrote:I have not gotten to see Montana play this year. Both teams have to do to the other the very same thing. I think we will do it, and it will be our defense that makes it happen.

I think we have an advantage with our tackles against their d ends. Every one know Hirst is one of the best tackles in the league and they will have Kory Biermann over him. We need Peter Jensen to step up and have a good day against Mike Murphy. They bring the heat up the middle but i think our guard/center mix is good enough to pick up the blitz. They will have some sacks, but Im willing to bet Rolo will have some big plays!

True the Griz get blitzed a lot, but over the past three years MSU has racked up a lot of sacks in this game. Even in the 2004 loss, we had five sacks on Ochs. The year before in Bozeman Ochs got sacked a lot, too. Beau Clark had three. I don't recall Bergquest getting sacked a lot last year, but he did get pressured a ton.VictorG wrote:I don't know how you are going to do that! Considering UM's o-line, I think it will hinge on how well Swogger can chuck it out of bounds before taking a sack. I don't think this is the key to the game at all.
It'll come down to how well Rolovich plays. If he struggles early don't be surprised to see Carpenter. I think Rolo will be on a short leash, esp. since Carp was the one to lead us to our biggest wins (and he played great in these games) at Colorado and NAU.

I heard Rolo has absolutely been on fire this week in practice. I'm pretty sure the Missoulian led you wrong. Carp is back and he's a damn good in insurance policy. I'm not trying to say Rolo IS going to screw, I'm just saying he won't last long if say he throws a couple INTs in the first quarter and can't complete a high pct. of his passes.Bleedinbluengold wrote:I didn't get the impression from reading the article in today's Missoulian that Carpenter is available.
We've played our best offense on surfaces other than grass this season, so lets hope that continues. I think that could be a factor that few have mentioned.

I hope to see Rolo taking a 3 step drop and firing to the quick slants and long posts to Jefferson and Co.catatac wrote:I heard Rolo has absolutely been on fire this week in practice. Swogger had 10-15 seconds to throw against UNC. Looked like cheddar cheeze to me.SeeHarg wrote:Please.catsrback76 wrote:We better not let the Griz sit back in the pocket with no pressure on Swogger.

Re: We BETTER not let the Griz...
Yes - I didn't understand that at all. All UNC did was the 3-man bull rush all game it seemed like. There is no way you can do that against Swogger and those receivers. We will be blitzing him from all angles and he will get rattled. He's been sacked more than any other QB in the Big Sky this year... we're comin after him.KillintheGriz wrote:Swogger had 10-15 seconds to throw against UNC.
