CAT/griz student tickets prices

Post by 94VegasCat » Mon Nov 13, 2006 1:15 pm

I cannot find the link that shows the ticket prices for MSU students for the CAT griz game. I am talking to a friend that has um student friends that won't stand in line to get him a ticket. The cost to the um students is $4.00 for their tickets. I told my friend that um was charging MSU students $50 and he doesn't beleive me. This is true?

You are correct...the student tickets offered to MSU students were $50 a piece. Limit (2) tickets per student.

Thank you #34.

That is such a bunch of crap. Did anyone ever find a reason that the MSU student is getting raped on this deal while the um students only have to pay $4?

How is this not discussed in a more open forum? Like the Missoulian or Chronicle?

Remember that UM students also pay an athletic fee to subsidize their share of the tickets. The tickets for MSU students are part of a pool of tickets made available to MSU, they could sell them to students, to boosters, to season ticket holders, whoever, so it makes no sense to compare MSU ticket price to UM ticket prices, since UM students have no obligation to subsidize MSU student prices.

Season tickets have a face value of $40, I'm not sure why the MSU tickets are higher. Maybe the single game tickets were $50, or maybe MSU adds a service charge, I can't say.

ok, I can see some of that, it makes some sense. But the $50 tickets were offered as MSU student tickets and not the public, through MSU.

I guess that since the schools are apart of the State Dept of Education that some of the fees would be the same for both schools. Things must have changed since I was in school.

If I'm not mistaken, the Griz students were offered student tickets to last year's Cat/Griz game for $30. I'll bet they won't be that cheap next year.

Is it the UM or MSU athletic dept. selling these tickets to students?

Ticket pricing is getting ridiculous. It would be nice if both schools would allocate affordable tickets priced for students of both schools to continue the experience of students from both schools to attend without having to drop a big chunk of change. As it is now UM is subsidizing student tickets that can be sold on ebay for $100+. Student tickets should only be redeamable with a student ID. Regular college students shouldn't be priced out of attending their rivalry game.

Simple equation of supply and demand.

I know this is irrational, but let's just get rid of the student sections all together and sell the tickets to alumni. YEAH RIGHT. THAT WOULD NEVER HAPPEN. The students should be able to experience the games at a relatively cheap rate. No need to break the bank and these college kids, whether it is in Bozeman or Missoula.

I got an e-mail that said they release 100 more tickets for students.

They go on sale at 6pm on Wednesday at the Fieldhouse.

Is this confirmed? If so, that is fantastic news...I'll have to break out the good OLD student ID.

Here's the e-mail I got, hopefully that's confirmation enough:

ATTENTION MSU STUDENTS

Due to some ticket returns, 100 additional tickets will be available to
MSU students for the 2006 Cat/Griz football game in Missoula and will
go on sale at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, Nov. 15th at the Bobcat Ticket
Office (North Entrance of the Fieldhouse). The ticket price is $50,
and students will be able to purchase up to two tickets with
presentation of a valid One Card. They will be sold on a first come
first serve basis.

If you have any questions, please contact the Bobcat Ticket Office at
994-CATS.

I know it would never happen, but when I was at UM, I always thought that would be a viable alternative to offering student tickets. Instead of setting aside 3,000 tickets for students and offering them for $4 (or for free, as it was when I was in school) instead give every student the option to buy a season ticket (at full price, or close). The cost could be split between the two semesters' tuition bills, the students who were true fans would go to the games (likely resulting in about the same number of student fans as we currently draw), and those who chose not to go would not be paying a fee to subsidize those who do.

I've harped on this subject quite a bit, but certain schools generate quite a bit of revenue from the students and their athletic fees, beyond the cost of season tickets. Athletic and activity fees are $(64.25+$55) per semester at MSU (where they are separate) and $64 at U of M (where they are combined).

http://www.montana.edu/wwwcat/2006-08_p ... rgrad.html
http://www2.umt.edu/catalog/expenses.htm#fees

So, basically, students at Montana who go to football games at Montana are getting a good deal for their money. On the other hand, students at Montana State University are paying quite a bit more for their tickets than the general public.

Considering how much students give to the athletic department at MSU, they should be treated like kings, rather than felons, at games.

$64.25 per semester is only $128.50 to the athletic department and that includes Football, Basketball(Men's and Women's), Volleyball, and any other ticketed athletic event. You get good seats in both the Fieldhouse and Bobcat Stadium. While that isn't super cheap it also isn't a lot for season tickets to all those events.

It isn't a lot for all of those events for season tickets, but the student seats would certainly be higher priced if they were season tickets as they are good seats. I'm not in favor of charging students for season tickets. Maybe if the athletic fee was waived, but we know that the University would not do that. It would be a charge on top of a charge. Give the students a perk. We pay for a lot of stuff, including a $55 SUB renovation fee. I know that the money is going to 2 other projects as well, but it was sold as a SUB renovation fee. The SUB renovation doesn't even look like it's going to happen anytime soon. Let the students have their free tickets.

Do you need a student ID to get into WaGriz with these tickets?
