Bobcats to open '07 season at Texas A&M
Bobcats to open '07 season at Texas A&M
By TIM DUMAS Chronicle Sports Writer
The Montana State football team will play a Big 12 opponent for the third year in a row when it plays at Texas A&M next season.
The Bobcats are scheduled to play the Aggies Sept. 8 in College Station and will receive a $450,000 payout, according to MSU senior associate athletic director Dan Davies.
MSU has never played Texas A&M, which is ranked 24th in the latest Division I-A Associated Press Poll and is 8-2 on the season. The program is known for "The 12th Man," in which the crowd at Kyle Field (capacity 82,600) stands for the entire game.
A&M's President, Robert M. Gates, was nominated Wednesday by President Bush as the next U.S. Secretary of Defense in replace of Donald Rumsfeld, who resigned earlier in the day.
Montana State defeated Big 12 program Colorado 19-10 earlier this season and lost to Oklahoma State, also from the Big 12, 15-10 in 2005.
The Bobcats are also close to signing a contract to host Southern Utah next October. That deal "is just about completed," Davis said Wednesday.
MSU has played Southern Utah once, defeating the Thunderbirds 32-30 at home in 1993. SUU plays in the Great West Football Conference and is 3-6 this season.
With Big Sky home games slated against Idaho State, Northern Arizona, Sacramento State and Montana, Montana State will attempt to schedule a sixth home game for 2007 in the near future, Davies said.
In 2008, the Bobcats will play against Big Ten school Minnesota on Sept. 13 at the Metrodome.

The GRIZ, a quarter century of total football dominance over the cats.

Good money for playing a good team in a good setting. I have a brother in law who graduated from A & M and it sounds like we are going to meet up there and go to the game. It looks like it is a great environment for football. Should be a fun weekend. I think it will be a much bigger task than the last 2 Big 12 teams as they are a team on the rise rather than in decline.

Wow. Kyle Field looks like it's almost as big as Washington-grizzly stadium!

Why do I feel compelled to pronounce Kyle the same way Eric Cartman from South Park does? I guess I watch too much TV.
For more on Kyle Field see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kyle_Field
It looks like a cool place!

I am going to try but that is a very long trip. Well worth it though to catch the Cats in College Station.rtb wrote:I am have officially started planning my trip today, I can't wait to go to College Station. Currently MSU should be ranked #11 in the Big 12 right?
Anyone else going to try and make the trip?

I am pretty pumped about this game. I am not going to predict a win, but we should give them a scare. I am excited about this team next year. We should be real good because we return a bunch of very good players and we'll get to see last years recruiting class start to make some noice (besides Mason who already has). MSU Football the present and future looks really bright!
GO CATS!!

Yeah. I have watched a few A&M games this year - he's an animal. Plus, with a name like Lane Jovorskie, you just gotta be good.083190 wrote:A & M has a sophomore RB, Lane Jovorske. He is a beast. 5'11" 270.

Eric Curry STILL makes me sad.

My cousin and his wife live in College Station. They are MT Tech grads, but they have MSU blood in their immediate family.rtb wrote:I am have officially started planning my trip today, I can't wait to go to College Station. Currently MSU should be ranked #11 in the Big 12 right?

I'm going to try and be there depending on how much I travel for work over the summer.

So anybody know the logistics of going to a game in College Station? Fly into Houston?
Do you need to reserve a motel room now in order to get one on a game weekend?
We probably won't go-but you never know.
By the way-tickets for the A&M game vs The Citadel this year were $53 so I would guess about the same for next year for our game.

Good luck to the Bobcats!
I still would have liked to see you play NDSU but understand that these games pay the bills. At this point NDSU should look to play as many DI-A games as possible because no decent DI-AA team will come to Fargo(even if the Bison play them away first) and NDSU can't make the playoffs anyway next year.
