Just a quick question, street; if the facemask took place at/near the line of scrimmage, why did the flag fly into the screen AFTER the ball was intercepted? If that was the infraction, it sure took the ref a LONG time to toss his hanky...
I'm not disputing what you're saying; as I stated, I didn't SEE the infraction; it just didn't make much sense to me.

But it was called on Henderson!STREETCAT wrote:I beg to differ on the facemask call. I have it on dvr and you can clearly see Beach trying to jam the guy at the line. And as the reciever runs buy he grabs the facemask and almost pulls the guy to the ground.El_Gato wrote:My 2 cents worth: How about the run by Groves 2 plays before the Jefferson TD???
Groves has the ball on his chest, with his shoulders & head in the end zone, and the idiot side judge comes running in, saying he was down at the 1 inch line? On TV it appeared he clearly broke the plane with the ball and all the Cats were celebrating & signalling a TD. Get that one right, it's 20-3, game over, and the Jefferson play never happens.
Or what about the mystery PF facemask on UNC's next 4th down? You couldn't see it on TV but I've NEVER heard of a DB facemasking a receiver WHO DOESN'T HAVE THE BALL NOR EVEN A PLAY ON THE BALL! I have to believe that facemask happened AFTER we had possession of the ball. As I said, you couldn't see the "infraction" on TV, was that one a bad call too?
Add in the 4th down GIFT that the refs gave the Griz in their game and the zebras damned-near singlehandedly handed them the outright conference championship in about a 5 minute span!

I was just thinking the same thing. That was the main reason I thought the flag was for pass interference. The flag flew in so late in the play that I it gave every indication that it was for PI or something like that.El_Gato wrote:Just a quick question, street; if the facemask took place at/near the line of scrimmage, why did the flag fly into the screen AFTER the ball was intercepted? You said it. Once the ball/possesion has occurred past the goal line the play is over. Pretty easy concept eh? Keep in mind the DB didn't even have the ball until they were down on the ground/rolling through then the CB has the ball. Also, I agree on the Groves call as well. His back was going over that guy and ball CLEARLY breaks the plane of the goal line and no TD call. Give me a break. This crew was out to get us I had a feeling the whole game.bcats wrote:Yeah, once he has it and has a foot down in the endzone the play is over. If it happens somewhere else on the field then I can see a possible interception but not in the endzone. It is similar when a player dives and gets the ball over the line and then fumbles. It is a TD once it crosses and everything after is dead. Plus the official that calls the INT is totally out of position and the one who has the best view call it a TD. Big Sky Officials have to be among the worst in the country.

You can see that the flag is thrown late as hell, but the back judge moves the flag up to where the infration occured. It was definatly 24 of the foul. I believe it was a good call he praticly throws the reciever down on the play by the facemask. I will see if I can get it uploaded to my computer tonightEl_Gato wrote:Just a quick question, street; if the facemask took place at/near the line of scrimmage, why did the flag fly into the screen AFTER the ball was intercepted? Is that possible to do? I would love to be able to do this with my DVR.
BTW, are you on Bresnan's DVR? Ours hasn't worked for about three weeks due to some programming issue with the manufacturer of the box; pissin' me off as I can't get my Desparate Housewives recorded on Sunday nights

Do they actually make that information public? For some reason I thought the BSC kept information on the refs suspensions, etc private.catatac wrote:Bump - anyone know if any of the refs got reprimanded, or suspended for a game? I know they review all the game tapes... they must do it for a reason.

Could be - I'm not sure. I know other conferences suspend officials after major screw-ups, and it is public info.rtb wrote:Do they actually make that information public? Yes, they can be suspended. Cannot remember if it was 3 years ago or 5 years ago, against ISU. ISU caused a fumble. Not sure about all the details, but I believe an inadvertant flag was thrown. An ISU player picked up the fumble and began to run it back for a TD. The ref blew the whistle, and stopped the runback at about the 50. It should have been a TD for ISU. But ISU got the ball where the whistle was blown, the CATS stopped them, and changed the tempo of the game. An ISU player was kicked out of the game, and CATS won. It was maybe even more pathetic than Saturday's call. That paticular crew was suspended and it made the press. The same crew made another horrible call later that season at another BS game. Hopefully this situation will make the press too. They should be held accountable.
