Hmm...where to start:STREETCAT wrote:Ok the good ol food in the Zoo Guys is an ok steak house nothing compared to Oasis or Land of Majic or the mint. The depot amazing hands down my favorite place in missou. Shadows keep is expensive for ****** food. Id rather eat at the Missoula Country Club than the old Mansion. Theire burger places like the desperado, Bodegas, Mo Club are comparable to our burger bobs, Mamma Macs, garage.
I think bozeman has great italian places that missoula lacks (Louies down under and farraros) You just got a jonny carinos we have had one for six years. We lack a good Chineese place like the mustard seed, but we have 3 mexican places 2 family owned. Daves Sushi is amazing!! everything the zoo has plus more.
The one thing missoula doesent have....
2 full nude strip joints.!! Freds is tits, with panties on, and fox club should just be a transvestite training ground!
my .02
Steak -- I did agree in my post that Oasis is my favorite steak place (for prime rib, at least -- and prime rib is my favorite food, which pretty much makes Oasis my favorite restaurant in Montana). I've never eaten at the Mint, but I've gotta be honest, Land o Magic did not impress me, at all. I think Guy's is several cuts above LoM.
Shadow's Keep -- honestly, I wasn't that happy with Shadow's Keep, either. You go there for the atmosphere more than the food, but when I go back to Missoula, the Depot is my choice for a nice dinner as well.
Italian -- I intentionally left Johnny Carino's off my list (for both Bozeman and Missoula) because aside from the fact that both places have it, it is a big chain, and I was trying to keep the discussion about local restaurants. That said, I would agree with Romeo's as the place to go for Italian in Missoula. The atmosphere is not upscale, but the food is very good. But yeah, there's not a lot of good Italian in Missoula.
Mexican -- El Cazador is excellent, and the place on Broadway that I can't remember the name of is pretty good as well (though El Cazador is hands-down the best Mexican in Missoula, and the best I've had in Montana...though I've never had Mexican in Bozeman).
Strip clubs -- Bozeman may have Missoula beat in that department. The only one in Missoula that was open when I was there is Fred's, and it's not that great. Following tampa griz's line of thought, though -- yeah, I would expect Tampa to have some good ones. NYC is not too shabby either.

I agree with your assessment of NYC strip clubs. Score's is an excellent destination. Better bring some pretty heavy cash though.Grizlaw wrote:Hmm...where to start:

Problem is, you have to have these guidlelines:STREETCAT wrote:I think both towns could use a hooters!!!
Ability to develop 3-5 restaurants within your territory.
A restaurant location with at least 100,000-150,000 people within a five mile radius.
$3 million in liquid assets.
At least 5 years as a multi-unit restaurant owner / operator.
Sadly, there is also this:
There are no franchise opportunities available in the United States. Every region has been sold and our franchisees are not allowed to sub-franchise.

Eric Curry STILL makes me sad.

Are there Hooters restaurants that locals actually go to?
I've been by a lot of them in different places, but never gone in ... and they always seem to be in tacky tourist trap areas ... filled with tourists from places that apparently don't have Hooters in their towns.
I honestly don't think anyone in MT is missing out on anything by not having a local Hooters.

I live in Florida and Clearwater (home of Hooter's) to boot so there's a Hooters every mile or so. The locals here definitely hang out in them.....if nothing else it's probably the closest sports bar to your house if you live in this area.Bay Area Cat wrote:Are there Hooters restaurants that locals actually go to?

They're not too bad. As good a place as any to watch a game. But if I'm actually hungry I'll go somewhere else. I don't care for the food. Not even the wings. But the staff is usually pretty good about getting stuff out quickly even if it's packed.
You might be onto something about the tourists. Every time I'm there the girls are pushing you to buy T-shirts, caps, etc. So it seems like it's probably a tourist destination.

Yeah, I think it is mostly a tourist thing, but I've been known to go there when it's the closest / best local option to watch a game. When I lived in the DC area a couple years ago, the Hooters in Rockville, MD was the only sports bar near where I lived, so a group of my friends and I used to go there pretty regularly to watch games, and it wasn't a bad place to hang out (and incidentally, I do like their wings, but the rest of their food is nothing special). On the other hand, the one in NYC is only about a block away from my apartment, and I almost never go there (because there are better sports bars nearby).tampa_griz wrote:You might be onto something about the tourists. We may have, actually.Bay Area Cat wrote:I'm getting a strange sense of deja vu (and not the strip joint nor the women's exhibition basketball team) from this thread. Have we had this same basic conversation about Hooters before?

I was thinking the same thing -- either we've talked about this before, or I've had the same conversation with someone else before.

I think there is a country song about liking Hooters for their wings...Grizlaw wrote:Yeah, I think it is mostly a tourist thing, but I've been known to go there when it's the closest / best local option to watch a game. No, but I do go there on occasion, too (including every year for the Cat-Griz satellite party, which is always a good time...it was kind of funny in 2004; I was in Missoula for the game, but part of me felt like I was missing out by not being at the party in NY).Eastcoastgriz wrote:Do you live close to Ship of Fools?
I live in Hell's Kitchen, just below Columbus Circle. There are a lot of little neighborhood places near here that are fun spots to watch a game.

As an MSU alum I will have to admit chasing skirts and partying is better in Missoula. I was an engineering student so dUMb was not an option for me. Although when I look back, it sure would have been great to study dance and get laid all the time.AlphaGriz1 wrote:I lived in Bozeman for 5 years and worked at the PBS TV station on campus. The only good bar around there is out in Gallatin Gateway (Stacy's) No good restaurants, man no wonder I hung out in Livingston all the time.
I guess my point is that th reason your student section isn't full, is that staying in bed is more exciting than anything in town.
