Watching the SDSU/NDSU game, they're still bigger stronger and faster than we are...especially with our injuries. We're good, but they seem on another level still.
Interesting, I came out of it with the exact opposite opinion after watching MSU steamroll Idaho and PSU the last two weeks. The 2023 Bobcats took both NDSU and SDSU down to the final play and to my eye the 2024 team is signficantly better right now in all three phases than that team was at this point in the season.
I think luckyirish has a bad take for the reasons you mention regarding the Cats, but these two Dakota States look like they've taken a step back. For example, NDSU showed weaknesses all over the field against ETSU. I walked away from last night's Marker game thinking neither of those teams would beat the Cats in Bozeman, and we would have a decent chance of winning on the road.

I watched the game on tv but they never really showed the crowd. However, some of MSU’s highlights you can see a good crowd. How many MSU fans were there?
2/3? Attendance per espn was 3100, so I'd say around 2000
And it was homecoming with special recognition given to some past players. That is embarrassing. PSU admin really needs to get something done about playing back downtown.
They recognized a decade’s worth of teams and only 5 former players showed up.
Ouch. Gotta wonder how long PSU retains football with such sad sack support.

Eric Curry STILL makes me sad.

Yeah it's rough. It feels like they're not even trying. Washington County where Hillsboro Stadium is located has 600,000 people. Hillsboro and Beaverton have 200,000 just by themselves. But I don't think they market there at all. They try to get their students and Portland fans to go to the games. I don't know, maybe they do it, but have the pee-wee football kids play mini-game at halftime, give the parents a ticket. Invite the local high school bands since PSU doesn't have a band of their own-whatever, do something PSU! I just know you don't see any PSU signs or banners in Beaverton or HIllsboro. Ducks and Beavers yes, but Vikings-nope.

The Timbers have great fan support and are a solid franchise, but Providence Park is owned by the City of Portland. Portland State University should be lobbying city officials to get them back in there. It could be a huge step towards building the university - not just in athletics, but changes the image of the school.

I knew it was owned by the city, but The Timbers definitely helped force them out. Colter's most recent article references the fact they were forced out because of soccer.

Its got to be hard to lobby for use of a stadium that holds way more than you draw.

What did PSU draw when they played in that stadium? Obviously, the stadium is closer to their campus and a lot more people would be able to attend games there.

Bobcat athletics is a business to the coaches, school leadership, and players. It's time the fans treat Bobcat athletics as a business too.

Same here. Neither of those teams can stop the Juggernaut that is the MSU offense. Also, not sure if they can score much on out defense either. How about special teams? Nah.

The Bobcat-Vikings games I went to there, the announced attendance was around 7,000 or so. Not great and the place felt pretty empty. Scheduling got tougher when the Portland Thorns started (women's soccer team that draws 18,000 a game). Also Major League Soccer takes a very dim view of having football lines on the pitch. I would guess the expense of striping the field and then unstriping would fall on PSU-along with all the other conversion that has to take place. It can be done. The Seattle Sounders play in the Seahawks stadium and the lines don't show, but I suppose the budget is a lot bigger between the Seahawks and Sounders. I think PSU needs to make a partnership with the local high schools on a smaller municipal football stadium for all the teams-even some Portland high school teams play their games way out at Hillsboro. Not a lot of money to make that happen I guess.

Final game at Providence Park was 2016 against EWU. Attendance listed on their website is 5669. UNC was before that and attendance was 3446. So not really any different than Hillsboro.

In 2015, Barney's first year as head coach, they beat the Bobcats there. That was their playoff team. They were really good. The announced attendance for that one was 8,110. https://msubobcats.com/sports/football/ ... score/3553

The SDSU defense is really good.

UIW - 24
@ SELA - 0
@ Northen Iowa - 3
Youngstown - 13
@NDSU - 13

I think our own rivalry game is a tale to not put too much into how a team looks in a rivalry game. I saw two fast and physical teams. Both will be very hard to beat. But, I absolutely think the Cats are in the same conversation with them. The top three teams could be ranked however you want right now. Giant game between the Yotes and Rabbits this weekend.

Ouch, I see more former Bobcat football players at every home game just in the two rows behind my season ticket seats.

I guarantee there were more former bobcats at the game in Portland than former Vikings.

It won't happen BECAUSE of the Timbers and Thorns. Portland is arguably the most soccer obsessed city in the US. More people attend Thorns women's professional soccer games than would ever attend a PSU game at the same stadium. They need the stadium open on fall weekends for MLS
and NWSL regular season and playoff games, which make the city and community way more money than any Portland State game ever will. I don't see a route for Portland State to ever play at Providence Park again unless they somehow only play on Friday nights.

I do know they were trying to cooperate with a neighboring high school to build a new stadium on the high school's field that they would both use, but that plan fell apart. They also have an on-campus practice field that they could potentially build around if they were able to tear down a building or two, but I doubt that'll happen

Portland State University should be lobbying city officials to get them back in there. It could be a huge step towards building the university - not just in athletics, but changes the image of the school.

It would be tight, but find a creative architect and I could see something being built around the existing buildings. That roadway would hurt any significant end zone expansion but sidelines seats and minimal end zone seating could happen, if they had some money to spend. It wouldn't be easy but it would be fun to see if someone could come up with a cool design.

The high school field would be a better option and neat location.

Bobcat athletics is a business to the coaches, school leadership, and players. It's time the fans treat Bobcat athletics as a business too.

It’s crazy that Bobcat fans care so much about Big Sky Football that we are investing time into solving PSU’s problems. Keep the ideas rolling!
