Of course there would be no compliance issues post playing career. Same way you could pay an ex-Bobcat to sit at your house and do nothing if you wanted...don't think I would ever "donate" money to an aspiring pro athlete unless it was a close family member. But wish Tommy all the best and hope the professionals who are around him who stand to benefit financially from his success support him through the process.AFCAT wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2025 10:47 amThere were some questions last year about donating money to help these former college athletes with their training after college. I did check with the MSU compliance office and, yes, it's completely fine donating money to help with this training.

Re: Update on Tommy
I'm sure I could find this if I dug a little deeper, but does anyone know if they're doing that for all athletes that are training for the draft (like Brody maybe?) Seems kind of weird to just do it for Tommy, even if he is legendary.

Re: Update on Tommy
I’m sure you could reach out to the collective or Brandon Vancleeve and ask. I only knew about Tommy’s funding request because it had been mentioned in Butte. I do know that a lot of agents will front the cost for prospects assuming they will recoup it when the player makes the league.blueandgoldblitz wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2025 12:12 pmI'm sure I could find this if I dug a little deeper, but does anyone know if they're doing that for all athletes that are training for the draft (like Brody maybe?) Re: Update on Tommy
I don't know, but if you want to, you can contact a former player directly and donate cash to them. I did that last season for three players and didn't go through the collective.blueandgoldblitz wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2025 12:12 pmI'm sure I could find this if I dug a little deeper, but does anyone know if they're doing that for all athletes that are training for the draft (like Brody maybe?) Re: Update on Tommy
Yeah, that's what I said last season when this question came up from others on the board, but I checked with the compliance office to make sure we weren't harming the school or the program in any way and they confirmed that we wouldn't be.WetBreeches wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2025 11:24 amOf course there would be no compliance issues post playing career. Re: Update on Tommy
The amount they are willing to front is directly proportional to the amount they assume they will recoup...the old adage "it's a business"...no free meals in pro sports...depending on the players draft stock they will have everything paid for and even a per diem from an agent.RyeCat wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2025 12:26 pmI’m sure you could reach out to the collective or Brandon Vancleeve and ask. Definitely an easy and prudent decision to double check.AFCAT wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2025 12:39 pmYeah, that's what I said last season when this question came up from others on the board, but I checked with the compliance office to make sure we weren't harming the school or the program in any way and they confirmed that we wouldn't be.WetBreeches wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2025 11:24 amOf course there would be no compliance issues post playing career. Re: Update on Tommy
Oh I got you. I just assumed based on what I had read that there was like a little box on the Collective website for members to donate directly to Tommy or something. I was just curious. Not looking to start any sort of kerfuffleRyeCat wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2025 12:26 pmI’m sure you could reach out to the collective or Brandon Vancleeve and ask. This post says Combine 2025, week 3. Not sure if that just means combine prep?

Re: Update on Tommy
Here’s Tommy’s job.
https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/435 ... lp-offense
Sean Payton (Broncos) says he wants a “joker” player who can run, catch passes, make yards after catch, and be able to throw the ball. He just described Tommy.

Hmm, Tommy could totally be that. Hope he gets an invite to the combine if he hasn't already.Bobcat4Ever wrote: ↑Tue Jan 28, 2025 11:42 amHere’s Tommy’s job.

Re: Update on Tommy
Any idea, with his numbers and multiple awards, why Tommy hasn't received any invites to post season competitions?

Re: Update on Tommy
It would be nice to have been selected, but it also doesn't matter. There are only so many slots. People have been drafted that never went to post season competitions or games. Daniel Hardy being one of them.

I'd guess because his future in the NFL, if there is one, will almost certainly not be as a full-time quarterback. Tommy will make a roster based on his athleticism which he'll get a great chance to show off at Pro Day and in any private workouts he might do for teams who are interested.
