Help me out with an example of where we got a better payout when someone backed out of a contract. I'm guessing you know what the old contracts looked like--that would be helpful to see how far MSU has fallen. I don't think anybody predicted MSU would be making a profit off this, just saying there would probably be a payout, which happened. But it was delusional of us to think that. I'd say good things are happening when the most delusional of us are getting what we wished for!

Next year's game will be replaced by another road game. We already have 6 home games on the schedule. Hopefully we can find another opponent in Texas, for recruiting reasons, and one that will make it financially worthwhile. It's too bad we're already playing Oregon or we could try to get an FBS game down there.

It's not because of Week 0, it's just the calendar for 2024 and 2025. The normal FCS regular season starts Labor Day weekend and ends the weekend before Thanksgiving. Usually this is 12 weeks and allows for 11 games plus a bye, but in 2024 and 2025 there are 13 weekends in that timeframe which allows for 12 games and a bye. Playing in Week 0 just allows a team to have two mid-season bye weeks instead of one.

Two other Southland teams don't currently appear have a game scheduled for 9/13 next year (our open date): Texas A&M Commerce and Nicholls. In the MVFC, South Dakota doesn't have a game that week yet either. It would be kind of interesting to play both SDSU and USD back to back but those two games plus Oregon would be a hell of a way to start a season.

On the FBS side (unlikely due to our brutal week 1 and 2) New Mexico State, University of Louisiana-Monroe and UT-San Antonio still need to fill that week.

I believe the schedules for all of these teams work out for them to host the game as well.
