I watched a couple games where the Griz defense looked pretty dang good. But then towards the end of the season I think teams realized they could overpower your D line and have their way with you... and they did. Now you lose your best D lineman (by far) in Saenz, and don't you lose another one too? From the recruiting tidbits I've seen you haven't addressed that problem yet. Will be another interesting year in the Big Sky...UMclassof2002 wrote:Newsflash - the D was great last year. It will be again next year. I think you probably know that. It was the offense that hung them out to by putting them on a short field, giving them no rest with 3 and outs and scoring no points. Offense was the issue and it is being addressed.catatac wrote:Hmmm. National Championship in 06. Wow - you guys must really be implementing some drastic changes over there if you think this is a possibility. From what I saw of your team last year - you were not even close to championship caliber. Any of the final 4 teams would have pummeled you easily IMO. Is 06 the year that your D is supposed to be "Scary Good" as Hauck stated? Exactly how are they going to improve so much over the next 10 months as to be considered "Scary Good"? Or is that another of Bobby's empty promises much like "We're bringing back the high-powered Griz offense - we're going to light up the scoreboard LIKE A PINBALL MACHINE!"![]()

Sorry to burst your bubble, but the Griz wont be first in the pre-season. Last year's champion will be, as that is usually how it goes. Maybe the runner up or a team that got to the semis, but not a team that got beat at home in the first round.bearBAC wrote:For all the kittys in the KNOW! Our basketball team was picked first in the preseason and see how that worked out.

So unless you guys go to the dance the Bobcats get a bigger trophy since we were picked to win the basketball title in the preseason.Swilly3224 wrote:More than you win for not making the playoffswbtfg wrote:So what exactly do you win for being first place in the preseason poll?bearBAC wrote:For all the kittys in the KNOW! So it's not worth winning a conference title and going to the playoffs if you're going to lose in the first round? Interesting...Hell's Bells wrote:i dont get it

What if a team makes it to the second round and loses; then is it worthwhile? Or does a team have to win a national championship in order for getting a playoff berth to be a worthwhile accomplishment?
Or...dare I ask...is going to the playoffs only worthwhile in years when the Cats make it?

it's tough to say grizlaw. i myself have been confused by this because i have been told over and over again that it is all about making the playoffs. if your team misses the playoffs than the season is a failure. so, by using this logic, isn't all about making the second round? and then the semis? isn't it all about winning it all? i'm all for making the playoffs, and your string of apperances is impressive. i guess i just dont understand some of the bragging that has been done after a first round loss. as far as i'm concerned, besides the one team that wins it all, at the end of the year, everyone else is equal. imo of course.Grizlaw wrote:So it's not worth winning a conference title and going to the playoffs if you're going to lose in the first round? I guess there are a lot of measures of success. For my part, I don't think it's all about making the playoffs; I mean the Griz made it this year, and I'm still not happy with the season they had. On the other hand, if we had gone 0-11 and gotten waxed by Fort Lewis, I would be considerably less happy with our season than I am now, so I can't really say I agree that every team that doesn't win a national championship is equal, either (although I do get your point).whitetrashgriz wrote:it's tough to say grizlaw. i myself have been confused by this because i have been told over and over again that it is all about making the playoffs. if your team misses the playoffs than the season is a failure. so, by using this logic, isn't all about making the second round? and then the semis? isn't it all about winning it all? i'm all for making the playoffs, and your string of apperances is impressive. i guess i just dont understand some of the bragging that has been done after a first round loss. as far as i'm concerned, besides the one team that wins it all, at the end of the year, everyone else is equal. imo of course.
I just think it's funny to hear Cat fans argue to Griz fans that the fact that our team made the playoffs is irrelevant since we got beat in the first round. If we're all honest with ourselves, we know deep down that if the Griz hadn't made the playoffs, Cat fans would be talking smack mercilessly about it (especially if the Cats had gone instead, and even if they had lost in the first round). Knowing how much Cat fans would love to talk smack to us about our "streak" ending, it really seems disingenuous to hear some of them act like it's "no big deal" that we made it this year.
Just my .02 worth...

Here's the flaw I find in the argument. There is no doubt that Cat fans are disappointed we didn't make the playoffs but where Griz fans get our ire up is their claim they went because they were a better team. As I see it, which could be jaded, is that the ONLY reason the Griz went over us is Wa-Griz and the major bank that went with it for I-AA, not because of strength of schedule or more quality wins, but I could be wrong

I didn't remember seeing posts that said the Griz were a better team. I did see lots of posts that stated it was about the money, that we had a better record and that we were ranked higher.catamaran wrote:Here's the flaw I find in the argument. The GRIZ, a quarter century of total football dominance over the cats.
