A co-worker of mine in Colorado said he saw this article in the print version that he gets from NY times, he knew I'm from Montana. I read it on-line. Growing up on a rez and playing basketball....the article is very, very accurate and extremely well written. Huge kudos to those kids for knowing the kind of influence they can have on their peers and the younger kids who look up to them.

I remember our drivers ed teacher in '91telling us 8th graders that our assignment was to stay up late and watch Felix McGowan Jr. (Poplar HS) play for Gonzaga in the WCC championship game. I still root for any Indian kid who makes it to college. Looks like I'll be rooting for one griz walk-on next fall.

This is great stuff. Reminds me of Stanley Gordons "Blind Your Ponies", a fictional work about a Willow Creek, Montana high school basketball team. It's a fine read. This story, being the real thing, is better.
