Good-Bad-Ugly- MercyHurst

Good - it’s a W. Red zone D.

Bad - Didn’t really control the line of scrimmage on
offense. Pass defense on short out passes was not good. Only won by 17.

Ugly - the whole second half.

Haven't watched the game yet, only checked scores throughout the game.

Was this offensive bad performance caused by playing down to the level of the opponent, (based on a 2 OT game against SDSU), the new OC not being very good at play calling, growing pains from so many new people in new positions, or just a fluky game?

Had a birthday party for two of our great Grandson’s so only saw the first quarter. Will be interesting to read takes on the game here and on the game thread. Was able to listen to some of it even with the organized chaos of the party. Looks like a couple of goal line stands might be positives. Their QB sounds like he was fairly talented and one RB seemed to be decent.

This is a Vigen special. It’s like a fetish. Where Bobby needs to drive the score and show people how much he is respected, Vigen doesn’t care if his team only wins by one. His defense pitched a shutout after being tested repeatedly and being limited to vanilla calling. If I were them, I would be celebrating!!!!

When their number three wrapped up Lamson’s ankle and kept holding and twisting it to an obvious (but not called) personal foul - I needed to see a lineman run over and flatten that dude for messing with our qb. But nothing happened.

Only saw a few highlights. Looks like Mercy Hurst should’ve taken a couple of field goals but felt like they needed touchdowns. Not really a legit shut out. Did we suck or did Mercyhurst just play well?

And get a penalty? This isn’t a movie.

I don’t think I have ever seen a team have an 11 minute, 19 play drive… end in a punt.

that has got to be some kind of weird record?

lol ok. Send a freakin message. It’s just not that, it’s standing around not pushing the pile. They talked about being violent - need to see that. Also- you think linemen like JP Flynn would’ve let that crap slide? Heck no. Take the penalty there and fire up the whole team.

Totally agree! Very soft play from the O line in general today!

After the first half I think Vigen was bound and determined to RUN THE DAMN BALL! They could have passed, but since Mercyhurst was moving the sticks with some pinpoint passing, I think he needed to hold on to the ball for awhile, if not score. As long as we were moving the sticks I think he felt we could play some more people and get out with a "W".
A lot of depth played at DL, LB, and RB. New version of the OL needs to gel just like it did before SDSU.
We'll find out against EWU. Or maybe not until NAU.

Good: Got a dub. Weather in the shade of the west side stands was wunderbar.

Bad: Too many 1-2 yard runs, not enough big plays.

Ugly: Where were the fans in the second half? Too many didn't return for the 3rd.

I’m trying to be more optimistic this year, in years past I have been a bit of a pud.

I think the Cats will be just fine. Lamson has grit, just needs to play smarter not harder. Our backs run hard, unfortunately all but Jones don’t have break away speed, in fact aside from Dowler no one has shown elite speed on offense. Our O-Line is not blowing teams off the line this year. Our D is solid, they are young and learning but they will be dangerous down the road. However, with all that said, I think this team will find their rhythm. Today, this looked like a young team that didn’t show up, I hope that’s the case and it’s a lesson learned.

Like many have said, just a weird game. Heck even for myself, it just didn’t feel like a Bobcat game day.

He also doesn’t have tackle breaking abilities. I would like to see him play some receiver. He’s got good hands and way better in space.

Ugly: us trying to rip their quarterback's helmet off several times when he was on the ground after the play was over. Play tough, but not dirty. [-X
