The Bobcats won more games in the 2024 regular season than UTEP has won over the past 3 seasons combined. Going from MSU to UTEP has the same energy as going from MSU to New Mexico.
Unless he's one of those weird guys looking to make more money and advance his career.
Yeah, that's what it's all about, career and money. That program has been a mess for as long as I can remember. I lived in El Paso for two years, very close to the University too. El Paso isn't a bad town, but I wouldn't move back there unless it was for really good money.

Bobcat athletics is a business to the coaches, school leadership, and players. It's time the fans treat Bobcat athletics as a business too.

Well here’s to hoping Bobby puts a year or two in there and is the leading candidate back here for the HC position when Vigen does leave.

Yep, no hard feelings at all for Daly. Just too bad that his step up to the FBS falls into the "technically a step up" category. I have a feeling he won't be there more than two years before moving on to a real FBS team.

Eastwood, did not make it. Ball out! Recovered, by Montana State!! The Bobcats hold!!! The Bobcats hold!!!

Curious if we have any sort of an answer on a replacement after team meetings this afternoon.

Good for him! UTEP seems like a good program.
Yeah, I don't know about that. They've had 25 winning records in their entire history. UTEP is a 3-5 win team every year, if they are lucky. Very much like the New Mexico schools. El Paso is a tough place to recruit to and they draw fewer fans than MSU does. I lived in El Paso for two years. I wish Daly all the best in the world though.

No doubt. Something brought you to the area and you won't go back. My guess is Bobby is making more than double his current salary for an opportunity to coach FBS. Maybe he'll be there 2 years and never go back. But for now I bet he's very happy for himself and his family to make far more money and furthering his career.

I was forced to go there against my will. :D Stationed at Fort Bliss/Biggs AAF, but I lived on the other side of the mountains near UTEP.

The Bobcats will be just fine, trust Coach Vigen to make another successful hire as he usually does. FBS programs wanting to hire our coaches away is a good thing and we'll never be able to keep them from doing it as long as we stay in the FCS.

Hopefully but coordinators are important. Last year we had 2 who were new at it and it worked out. Have a seasoned OC coming in so that is a positive. DC we have had a mixed bag with new playcallers.

If Bobby is successful at UTEP, it will look VERY good to future employers.

Both of MSU's recent National Championship appearances happened with two first year coordinators. I won't be overly worried on either side of the ball until we actually get to see how things play out on the field next year. I would prefer that Vigen not hire another DC with a history of DUI arrests...something tells me that's a mistake he isn't going to make twice.

Was Daly one of the coaches who were all living together because of Bozeman’s ridiculous housing costs? I wouldn’t stay long either but I’d rather have a younger staff that is motivated than older guys looking for a last stop before retirement.

Seattle to Billings to Missoula to Bozeman to Portland to Billings

Well, at least there’s a huge, massive, game changing gift that’s definitely absolutely for sure coming that’ll offset the brutal wound that was losing the chipper, and the salt in that wound that was losing nearly all our proven talent and both our coordinators!!

I think we move Shawn Howe to D-Coordinater, Jody Ownes to linebackers and then fill from there.

You have an odd definition of "nearly all". Would you like the full list of major contributors to the 2024 team who will be back next year? Happy to type one out for you.

Daly is married and has a daughter, so I have my doubts he is living with a bunch of other coaches. You never know for sure these days though.

Given that this happened in February I would tend to agree, maybe they also give Jody the "Co-DC" title that Howe had last year while working under Daly. Both Howe and Owens have been coordinators before albeit not at the D-1 level.
