What are your top 5 benefits of moving up?Common Cat wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2025 4:04 pmAnytime anyone mentions moving up the same five posters who are clearly anti moving up jump in and post the same “oh you want to play in the …..bowl…” and just spew the same stuff over and over again. You can’t even have a conversation about it before gets torpedoed.

Re: Takeaways
That’s a good question. I don’t know if I have bulleted points. But some quick thoughts…I don’t want MSU to be left behind. I think there will eventually be a group of 5 playoff and a power 4 playoff. I want to be in the mix for that. I’d like to play in a conference with more like peers which in my opinion would look more like the Mountain West. Move up money helps retain coaches and players. We would be in a league with more basketball spots for the NCAA tournament. The FCS competition really is distilling down to about 4 teams- don’t see that changing.tetoncat wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2025 4:21 pmWhat are your top 5 benefits of moving up?Common Cat wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2025 4:04 pmAnytime anyone mentions moving up the same five posters who are clearly anti moving up jump in and post the same “oh you want to play in the …..bowl…” and just spew the same stuff over and over again. Re: Takeaways
Here are my counter points. If group of 5 playoffs happen Big Sky as a conference can move up. G5 coaches are constantly on move up. While revenue increases coach cost and scholarship cost do also so no extra revenue. If MWC is 50% ex FCS type teams will not get more BB spots. Those were earned by competitiveness of teams that have moved on.Common Cat wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2025 4:59 pmThat’s a good question. I don’t know if I have bulleted points. Re: Takeaways
While the Big Sky could move up; why? Why would also-rans like PSU and UNCU be in the G5 of the FBS? Per Common Cat's point; moving up leaves behind programs that don't give a rip about football. Moving into a conference with peer institutions would be a huge benefit.tetoncat wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2025 5:49 pmHere are my counter points. If those peers stay put, or if they consider MSU and UM peers and even invite them.Bobcat Sig wrote: ↑Mon Jan 13, 2025 11:05 amWhile the Big Sky could move up; why? Re: Takeaways
I'm with the other pro-move up posters...
To be clear, I much prefer the way the FCS has run its post season for a long time & have no desire to watch the Cats play in the Snoop Dog Lawnmower Corona Bowl.
But I ALSO don't want to go 15-0 beating up on the little sisters of the poor like Utah Tech and Portland State & UNCO and UT-Martin (OMG, in the PLAYOFFS!)
MSU belongs with peer research institutions like Utah State, WSU, Wyoming, Colorado State, the Nevadas & so on. Most importantly, the Cats belong on the field with those teams, not with the vast majority of commuter schools that comprise the FCS.
That world is long gone, its just time (IMO) to accept reality.
