Worse than a gris fan? Ouch. I just don't like coming to Bobcat Nation and seeing threads full of stuff that aren't about the Bobcats. I know it's not an opinion everyone here shares. I've only got one more thing to say, and I want you to know I mean it with my whole heart: Merry Christmas to you, and I hope you and everyone you love and care about has a wonderful holiday season. If South Dakota had been a #2 or #3, that’s who we would be playing in Frisco. Those guys absolutely played a hell of a game and I have nothing but respect for that program. They will be very good in the years to come. Did the Cats have a perfect game, not at all. Are there things we need to fix immediately, absolutely. All I hope is that if we get any kind of a lead in Frisco, that we don’t do like yesterday and take our foot off the gas and play safe. Fans were incredible yesterday though. I hope we bring that same energy in Frisco.

Good:

-That dart that Tommy threw to Taco up the left sideline. He guided it past the defender. Thing of beauty.

-Grebe getting a sack on a play when he’s blatantly held.

-Fleischmann hanging in there against maybe the best DE talent in the FCS this season.

-Depth! You had guys like Sharbono and Solano taking meaningful reps in a semi-final game.

-Officiating: Outside of holding non-calls, the refs were awesome. Let both teams play.


Bad:

-Safety angles. The long runs wasn’t all their fault— it was blocked up really well. But when that happens, the safety had to take the right angle.

-Bouman— I expected him to be a lot better given the reputation. Arm strength underwhelmed. He was a check down artist who can’t move.

Ugly:

-Holding. I love when refs let guys play, but Grebe was getting spun in circles like it was a swing dance.

The Ugly: I don’t have a feeling that we won comfortably. South Dakota was 0-2 on 4th down conversions, and they were both close. If they’d converted those two plays — could have been a way different game.

I disagree with the LOS assessment. On D, we consistently strung edge plays out, and forced the RBs back to the inside. When they ran up the middle, Theis was met close to the LOS most of the time. If he got 4-5 yards, it was because he earned them. The USD O line wasn't pushing our DL back very often, or creating huge holes.

Our O line generated good push for about half the game, and made some great adjustments in the 2nd quarter. USD tackled very well when the RBs got to the second level, limiting big plays.

They didn't have the running success we're used to because they're safeties are legit. Coming up and filling gaps along with their lb's. That Shorter dude is going to be a stud in the NFL, I predict.

MSU ran better vs USD than Wisconsin, NDSU and SDSU. Both total rush yards and yards per carry.

The play calls in 2nd half were partially the result of field position and game situation. We had 6 possessions, 1 TD, 4 punts and the final possession running out the clock.
I believe Tommy had 3 passes all incomplete including the intentional grounding. That series had a bad start as we ran the kickoff out of end zone to about the 15 yard line. (I might have consolidated 2 possessions here but can’t remember exactly)
Of Halls 4 punts 1 was average and 2 were absolute boomers approaching 60 yards.
Agree our offensive production was less than desired however we didn’t do anything to really jeopardize our situation or put our defense in a bad spot.

Coach Vigen in his post game press conference said the 2 long runs in the first half were 90 yds combined and they only ended up with 135 yds rushing. Actually the 2 long runs were a combined 100 yards......which means the rest of the game South Dakota only gained 35 yards on 22 attempts. Doesn't seem that way but that's what the box score shows.....WOW.....???

Also, coming out in the 2nd half we held them to 3 & out and then drove down and scored to go up 31-14.....that was a PERFECT!
