Some definite problems with play down the stretch, but the bottom line is only a terrible defensive PI call in the endzone kept his from being a 30-8 walkover.

As it was we had some adversity, a gut check, some bad bounces, and we still came out with the Road W to go 11-0.

Next week is gonna bit lit.

I feel like we lost any chance of the #1 seed with the last 6 minutes of this 4th quarter. . . at least we still got the win.
Good god they just beat the #4 team on the road. I'll take #2 any day for the playoffs. If the Cats beat the gris by 20+ they will have a good shot at #1.

Never a doubt. Should have called a fair catch on that onside kick.
I don't think you can do that if it hits the ground first.

Yes

But also, you gotta recognize how AWFUL that was. You can't do that in the playoffs
Oh 100% Coaches have some introspection to do. Gotta be more aggressive. They can't control a perfect onside kick and bad tackling though in game though.
Onside kick, no
But the defense, as good as they can be, needs to take a long look at their fundamentals this week

Don't let this distract you from the fact that the griz blew a 22-0 lead.

Vigen better own this screwup. The Cats absolutely would have ended this thing with a 1st down.
Gotta be more aggressive much further into the second half. However, better tackling ends that game sooner too.
No kidding. Should have went for it on fourth and one. You make that and the game's over.
Julius was running like a man possessed, there was no way Davis was going to stop him on 4th & 1. A first down and the game was done, instead we choke up a substantial lead that never should have happened. Vigens biggest downfall in my opinion is that he plays to not lose in big moments, he needs to get past that…. If the Cats had lost, it would have 💯 been on Vigen.
I agree we should have gone for it, but the refs also gave a terrible spot there. It was 4th and 2, took a yard away from us there.

Also, anyone have a "highlight" of that PI?

4th and 1 in your opponents territory up 2 scores with the best offense in FCS... You get the 1 yard. Feel like similar turtling handed NDSU the OT win last year. One lesson Vigen still seems to be learning.

It was a fairly clean game, Aggie’s were a little chippy, and this is an example of what happens when we get a lead and decide to play not to lose. UC Davis’ defense was great, however, we really didn’t do or show much, aside from the first series in the second half. Playing conservative is Vigen’s M.O. love it or hate it, that will never change with him.

Biggest positive we FREAKING won and are Conference Champs! Hopefully no major injuries, Scottrie is either super tough and ran off the field in the first half with a terrible injury, but my guess is, it’s all preventive. Also hate to see any player go down, but running back is one where we have infinite depth.

Game was close, both teams played well. Both teams made mistakes, the better team won on the road in a night game. Also since I’m a Cat homer, that score is one of those ‘looks a lot closer than it was’ scores. We either go for it and get the first or recover an onside kick and we win by 2-3 scores.

This team will be pissed they let the Aggies back in it. The gris will feel the wrath of that fury.

I had no problem with Vigen playing conservative on that 4th and 1. For them to win that game we had to do almost everything wrong after doing very little wrong all game. We then proceeded to make a ton of mistakes but still pulled out the W. Even if they'd converted the two point conversion we still would have had OT.

I don't even think the Bobcats made that many mistakes. Highly questionable PI call on fourth down lets Davis get to 30-15, then a great drive by MSU to run almost 5 minutes off the clock. Highly questionable PI call gives Davis the big play to get within 30-22, then Davis gets the literal perfect onside kick bounce that you almost never see. At that point Davis has all the momentum and has the ball in MSU territory. Credit the D for making the one big play they needed to seal it and Rylan Ortt for his sure hands on the second onside kick. No clue why Davis didn't try the same type of kick again the second time.

4th and 1 should have been a tight heavy left package, davis off tackle and mellott keeps it and sprints right to the sideline.

Just talked to someone who was at the game. Evidently the big long pass where Ty thought they were calling offensive PI was just a completely egregious miss by the ref. Johnson pulled down with both hands by the WR. Hard to blame our team really. Without that play, the crap call in the end zone on us, and a perfect onside kick that game never gets close. Only thing I would do is RTDB up 15 on 4th and 2.

They pulled off some pretty remarkable plays in the last two drives. It wasn't all our fault that the game had all this drama. It was two good teams going at it. We learned a good lesson...good teams don't quit, and when you have those kind of athletes they are double dangerous.

It was the correct outcome in the end but damn, have to figure out how to not be in the that situation at the end of the game. There were several opportunities to make plays. Definitely made the final two plays to complete the victory and closing out a game against a top four team, on the road is huge. GO CATS!

They allowed hands on all night...but decided to call it in the endzone.
