From the mercyhurst game- couple guys that I was impressed with were Neil Daly and Tayden Grey. Thought they looked really good.

Yup. Coon looks like another stud RB (the rb depth is pretty decent this year, ha).

I wish Wilson could have had more series to actually play, versus just handing it off for the most part, I like what we have seen though! He reminds me of prukop. Similar build, athletic, “quick twitch” with what looks like a strong arm passing. If he can be even half as good as prukop next year we will be in good shape.

At Oregon and home to SDSU is a brutal way to break in a new starter. Steep learning curve.

Daly played much better than last game.

Daily and Gray. Yes, Daily did play much better. MSU is set at DT for awhile with Marsh and Sharbono.

Maybe it has already been mentioned; but why didn't Reed play?

Coach mentioned in a presser that the #2 spot is up for grabs, I’m guessing because of chances play against Maine he was awarded with the reps until he made a glaring error.

100% speculation on my part but I’m guessing they’ve decided that Chance is the number 2 QB and wanted to get him as much playing time as possible.

I like Chance and I think he has the tools. I was pretty high on Reed, but he hasn't shown much development from last year to this year. Even if either guy gets any significant playing time this year, I still think Vigen may look towards bringing in a transfer QB next season.

Agreed, even if we have a breakout QB on the roster, I imagine the position will be wide open for grabs next year. The post season speculation will be entertaining on who it will be.

I think with the gauntlet that is the first 2 games next year, it will almost have to be a transfer in at QB. That would be such a tough way to break in a new starter, but if you can get one of those FBS drop down guys and then ease in the other one as the season goes on I think that’s the move

I think Reed would have played if Tommy hadn't taken that first drive in the second and if there had been more possessions. It seemed like this game was really shortened versus Maine. Mercyhurst did a much better job of making us work for it.

On a side note, I'd rather we just let one of these two take their lumps early next year if Vigen thinks they are "the guy" going forward. I'm just really not a fan of bringing in drop downs at qb. Just doesn't seem like it works out to lean on that. Sean worked out but I think that was a special scenario. I think qb is special case for drop downs because of team chemistry and mental state whereas other positions can come in and just lean on athleticism. Hopefully one of Reed or Wilson just starts showing out in practice so it's not even a question. Or both!

After the first couple of plays, I knew this game was going to be a lot shorter than the one before, gameplan was complete ball control, time consuming drives, not looking for 2 play scoring drives.

Next year SDSU loses a fair amount of their defensive front and QB.

I agree with almost everything you've said, but I don't believe these coaches would sit any player that gives them the best chance to win... in order to prevent him from standing out and getting too much exposure. I know Vigen wants to win the Chipper, this year, and he wants it bad. If a player helps us get there in any way possible, he's playing regardless of redshirt rules.
I get your point, but I will respectfully disagree. While would Jhase help this year? Yeah no doubt, but how much would he help? From what I saw of him against maine he looks just as adequate as the starters but wasn't MUCH better than the starters. There is a saying in tx hs football(maybe it's in MT as well, i don't know)...for every soph you start that's one loss. In 11yrs of coaching it has been 100% true. I don't think he is playing/practicing at a level that says "we have to play him". He's playing at a level of "he could play and help". Now what I do think is that he will play in games that they may feel they need the extra firepower, as well as the playoffs. I think they know he can play right now but they don't NEED him to. I think these coaches see the forest through the trees.... he helps now some...but redshirt him play him in games you think you may need the speed and covering ability and you got a real deal player for the next 4yrs. I don't see MSU not making the playoffs, so why play him when you don't have to? If your current guys are getting the job done there isn't a need to burn his redshirt. He played in the maine game.....i see idaho and um being the next toughest games that he would be able to contribute because they will throw the ball. That's only 3 games, so he keeps his redshirt and he provides extra help in two tough games. Now when the playoffs come, I do think he will play in those games because it doesn't count towards his 4 games.

Well there are two different things we're talking about here. One is that the coaches are going to limit a good player to four regular season games in order to preserve his red shirt, which I suppose is possibly what the coaches could be thinking, but again - in today's world it's more likely that a player will not finish they're career at MSU if they're good enough to command a few hundred thousand dollars in NIL money. The other thing that I thought you said is that they were not playing him because they didn't want him to get noticed and therefore poached by a bigger school. I don't think that is what the coaches are thinking, and I don't think they'd hold a player back and potentially negatively impact his future.

I think coach wanted to get him in, but mercyhurst went for two, long, time consuming drives at the end, and I think Vigen just ran out of time.

Don't know anything about this guy, but the UNLV QB (Matthew Sluka) quit after leading the Rebels to a 3-0 start including wins over Kansas and Houston. Previously played 4 years at Holy Cross. Went 12-1 in 2022-23 and lost to the Jackrabbits 42-21 in the first round. Will have one year of eligibility remaining.

He left an FBS program over money (whether his head got big and wanted more or just didn't get what he was promised). He's not coming to Bozeman.

Been following this story, it's too messy for MSU to deal with...stay away. Long story short....he has been playing well, obviously, and now there are two stories kids side....he was promised a certain amount of money and benefits for coming there and isn't receiving them.....school side....he has been paid as he was promised but is asking for more because his family feels that his stock has risen so his pay should reflect that.....two opposing stories but one thing in common that neither are denying....MONEY. Don't need that head ache and don't think that he would consider coming here because I don't see Vigen et al going that route...jmo
