Re: Valdez in portal
There has been a lot of wrangling in recent years whether athletes are actually employees. If that comes to pass, then athletes at public colleges would be considered public employees. Not sure about other states, but in Nevada their total compensation would become public record.catatac wrote: ↑Mon Dec 18, 2023 6:34 pmThey also snagged the stud ASU edge rusher yesterday, to replace their stud (#1 in QB pressures). I'm really curious how much they're paying the players (I know, I'm a broken record here) to sign, but I guess that information probably isn't readily available.

Fwiw, they don’t get paid for signing.
Of course it’s all legalese and semantics, but there are things they have to do (media appearances, advertisements, etc, etc) in order to get paid. It’s not a “sign here and you just get $100k”.

Their salaries and compensation from the university would become public knowledge, but would any NIL money that comes from private company?nevadacat wrote: ↑Mon Dec 18, 2023 8:04 pmThere has been a lot of wrangling in recent years whether athletes are actually employees. It depends on the NIL deal they cut, but usually yes you're correct they don't get the full amount immediately.BelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Mon Dec 18, 2023 8:12 pmFwiw, they don’t get paid for signing.

This is turning out to be the longest offseason of my life.
Don't let this distract you from the fact that the griz blew a 22-0 lead.

That's the biggest loss for the cats but I am happy for him. It's a no brainer for him to go to Washington. He'll probably be a starter and an NFL draft pick the year after. Good for him

At least he demonstrated transparency on X (formerly Twitter). He prominently displayed a tweet featuring his email address exclusively for NIL offers—no mention of mental health, no graduate degree, just a straightforward pay-to-play approach.

If we only lose (fingers crossed) Valdez, Reimer and Omar we are doing pretty good.

That's what I like, integrity first. Just say the real reason why you are leaving. That NIL tweet has been up there for almost a year though. The Butcher wrote: ↑Tue Dec 19, 2023 9:49 amAt least he demonstrated transparency on X (formerly Twitter). Maybe he won't take plays off at the next level. I would take guys with lesser talent, but with a higher motor any day.

Re: Valdez in portal
Just sayin! A guy shouldn’t get trucked by a freshman running back if he’s all that. He sure as heck wasn’t the same player as Benson or Yates.

Speaking of… what were his stats for this season?
Did he over or under perform? Was he double teamed much?

I’m not a stats guys, but the eye test for me was that he underperformed most of the year.

Double teamed virtually every play.
MSU - 16 team National Champions (most recent 2024); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

Re: Valdez in portal
He didn't make as many plays as the year before but I just figured it was due to opponents doubling him more.
I mean he got NIL money to transfer to the #3 FBS team so he must have done something right.
