I think our message board might be the only place anyone believes we had an "unbelievably talented team." At full strength we were as good as anyone but the minute you lose a snell, your TE room is no longer the best in the league. I don't think our d-line was exceptional collectively, Grebe and Valdez aside. We had 2 dominant position groups (oline, rb), i think all 3 levels on D were average to slightly above, placekicking was weak. Qb was very talented but always felt disjointed. Maybe I'm in the minority but especially with our injuries i didn't feel like we had the talent to just roll no matter who we played.CodyCat wrote: ↑Sun Dec 10, 2023 4:23 pmVigen just went 8-4 with an unbelievably talented team. All wins were essentially blowouts. 1bad loss in rivalry game. 3 losses literally 1 at from winning and in each it felt like mental errors and a few odd play calls cost us. Talent was thereGoldstoneCat wrote: ↑Sun Dec 10, 2023 4:44 pmI think our message board might be the only place anyone believes we had an "unbelievably talented team." Unbelievably is pouring it on a little strong but we were generally viewed as the #2 team in the country all year until Cat/griz. Even the Idaho loss didn't really diminish that. We were definitely greatly impacted by injuries at key positions but we were also only a handful of plays from being a 1 loss team heading into a semifinal match up.GoldstoneCat wrote: ↑Sun Dec 10, 2023 4:44 pmI think our message board might be the only place anyone believes we had an "unbelievably talented team." Re: Entz to USC
So if NDSU loses some of those guys getting NIL offers, plus senior graduates, and now Entz, is that motivation to finish this year strong, or does it's create drama in the locker room for the next game? Guessing all that info was known before yesterday's game and they played pretty tough. I'm not sure the gris won't get the USD treatment on Saturday.

Re: Entz to USC
I think if our team had receivers and linebackers like the Gris, with an addition of a decent place kicker we could still be in the playoffs and hosting this weekend.
Against NDSU they turned Tommy loose which was what everybody was hoping for all season...but when you turn him totally loose you have to deal with the fact that he has no concern for his body.
I don't know how a coach deals with that unless you get him those receivers to keep him from running so much, and linebackers to be able to keep us in a game under 28 points.

I’m not saying MSU should fire him. I’m just saying that it could create pause in NDSU wanting him.84CatGrad wrote: ↑Sun Dec 10, 2023 5:15 pmYou're right. I hope if he is contacted, that he immediately turns any interview down. That would be a massive middle finger to this program.

Re: Entz to USC
Well put. I think you're right. This team was probably a higher floor but the 21 unit was more talented i think. If we are going to indict Vigen for anything maybe it's that. I just have a hard time with this idea we drastically underachieved. You are what your record says, i get that, but we're 13-2 at worst with competent place kicking and maybe hosting, probably participating in a semi.coloradocat wrote: ↑Sun Dec 10, 2023 5:28 pmUnbelievably is pouring it on a little strong but we were generally viewed as the #2 team in the country all year until Cat/griz. Re: Entz to USC
Why has he lost the locker room? I believe their last two coaches did the same thing, announced they took a new job during the playoffs and both proceeded to win the chipper, if i'm not mistaken. Also hard for me to think Vigen would want to make a lateral move unless he just can't stand Bozeman.Common Cat wrote: ↑Sun Dec 10, 2023 4:18 pmExactly what I was thinking.RICO CAT wrote: ↑Sun Dec 10, 2023 4:15 pmWell, Entz has probably lost his locker room so this will be beneficial to the maroons. Re: Entz to USC
I’m not saying he’s lost the locker room although there’s speculation of players not being happy with the boise thing. What I am saying is, in my opinion, if he pursues the NDSU job, whether or not he gets it it would probably have ripple effects of distrust in the locker room.MT Logger wrote: ↑Sun Dec 10, 2023 6:41 pmWhy has he lost the locker room? Re: Entz to USC
Oh sorry i was referring to Entz since NDSU has won the chipper the last two times their coach has left and announced during playoffs. Yeah, i can't wrap my head around Vigen wanting a lateral move after having the Cats in a good place going forward. Can't imagine players would take kindly to that.

I would too, and I like Vigen. But interviewing for our rival would suggest he's doing everything to get out of town.BelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Sun Dec 10, 2023 6:47 pmI don’t care if it’s his alma mater, if he even interviews I’d can him.

Re: Entz to USC
This is accurate, imo. I thought Snell was possibly the most valuable player on the team outside of Tommy. Losing him was huge.GoldstoneCat wrote: ↑Sun Dec 10, 2023 4:44 pmI think our message board might be the only place anyone believes we had an "unbelievably talented team." I don’t really consider NDSU a rival, but leaving for another FCS program would be more than disrespectful. Applying for another FCS program tells your players and AD exactly what you think of your current program. So if he interviews, he better hope he gets it because it won’t be pretty here if he doesn’t.MT Logger wrote: ↑Sun Dec 10, 2023 6:53 pmI would too, and I like Vigen.
