It's funny reading BN sometimes. If you go to the "what does the D-fence need to change" discussion from last week you will see numerous posts about needing to tackle better. The coaches go live tackling during the bye week and the team tackles better than they have in weeks but we come out with injury. This week people are complaining about the physicality of practice. You can't have it both ways. It is always a balance between risk of injury and benefit of game performance. That is a tricky line and I don't think there is a right answer. I will say, however, that if we tracked last week like we did in Missoula we would not have lost this game in OT because we probably won't have even been in the game.

Double repping is what has built our depth. So it's a double edged sword.
The awesome depth that got us beat by every good team on our schedule? I’ll take our chances w/ a healthy bunch.
Yep 3 1 score losses, 2 on essentially the last play and the other dropped td and missed fg to end first half that win it. Other loss whole team didn't get off bus. Depth had nothing to do with the losses.

AND, I think I saw folks blaming double repping for some injuries?

When I coached, we double repped offensive plays....walking through them to start and them picked up the tempo to full speed. The first team ran the play first then the 2's would go. We didn't have enough players to double rep against a defense.

I would be curious to know if the Cats do the same thing or if they do go full speed against a defense when they double rep.

Regardless, our worst practice injury happened during a walk-through. Our fullback was literally walking when his kneecap dislocated. Stuff happens.

Justify it anyway you want. I’m from the school of thought that a loss is a loss. If you don’t think a healthy group (Taco, Chambers, Snell, Mellot, etc.) makes a difference in our chances of winning or losing games, then I have nothing for you man…

What you are suggesting sounds to me alot like the Rob Ash teams - really good starters at most positions but almost no depth. As soon as a starter or 2 went down, the season was toast.

There is almost 0% chance that you stay healthy for a full season with all your key players. Better to have depth than gamble on 15 games of healthy starters. Just my opinion.

Brace yourselves for the word on Mellott’s injury. Also hearing Choate is after him.

Doesn't Tommy still have the redshirt to use?

Granted, if he has to take it next season, it definitely doesn't help us for 2024. Jordan develops real quick or we're looking for a QB in the portal....

I really don’t care if players leave for the money. I think they are making a mistake, but that’s just me. I also don’t care who is playing on defense or offense, I just want them to dominate and win, so if that means it’s not Tommy or Valdez next year that’s fine. The thing that gets me is seeing how long it took us to get to a point to compete with the likes of NDSU and SDSU. It took us what 6-8 years to finally have the depth, strength, speed, talent, etc. to compete. If we continue to lose the guys that got us to this point, then we are looking at another 6 years or so before we can maybe get back to that high level again, that’s the frustrating part. I also think the transfer portal is going to make it harder to build a team that can compete. It’s almost like you are going to have to catch lighting in a bottle, because we are now a farm system and the kids that are good players will only stick around for 1-3 years max. It’s a bad cycle, it’s almost like a race to the bottom and everybody is just lining up to run it. You have to think there will be fallout down the road for some programs that don’t have the resources we have, albeit ours still seem minimal.

If your left, you aren’t right.

I think its highly unlikely for Tommy to stay in school that long. In fact its probably a pipe dream.
He came here in the covid year of 2020/2021 and since he's a very good student I'm guessing he will get his undergrad degree this year. He might've come back for next fall's football season but if he's out next year, he'd have to stay in school 1.5 or 2 years after his undergrad degree in order to play out his eligibility in Fall 2025. I don't have any inside knowledge or anything like that, but that seems pretty unlikely IMO.

If blown knee why would Choate be after him.

We need a portal QB regardless of Reed or not. Reed throws some great balls but I don’t think he’ll be anything to special.

If you know the facts on his injury but aren't at liberty to divulge those facts maybe you should keep your fingers off the keyboard TC88. That seems like the thing a responsible journalist or responsible person would do. I'd thank you for the information but it's such an incomplete tease of information that it's next to useless so thanks for nothing. Well at least now you have date and time stamped evidence to show everybody that you had the news before the average fan, whatever that's worth to you.

Perhaps Tom is just saying that word is about to come out on the injury, so brace yourselves in case its bad news. He might not necessarily be hinting that he has inside info on it.
