Re: Did you attend MSU?
The year I was born we won the Natty and my first year of college we broke the streak. Graduated in 2006 when we beat the Buffs and won our first playoff game since '84. Been a season ticket holder for 15 years or so. Trying to get more into BB now, got to see us finally sweep the Gris!

Some of the biggest fans I know didn’t attend MSU. I don’t think it’s very fair to call them bandwagon because they didn’t attend.coloradocat wrote: ↑Fri Feb 24, 2023 12:40 pmThe equivalent is Michigan State. They aren't the popular, casual fan team. I bet that MSU has the same jokes as we do.
It doesn't mean either team necessarily has better fans, but organic fans have a bigger emotional, and often financial, investment in the school than even lifelong bandwagon fans.

First year at MSU was 76. DII national champions. It was hook, line and sinker from then on.

My statement is very much a generalization. I think it holds true overall even though there are definitely individual exceptions.BelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Fri Feb 24, 2023 12:54 pmSome of the biggest fans I know didn’t attend MSU. Bandwagon might be the most accurate term but I couldn't think of another way of saying "fan without a direct connection to the school (ie. attended/graduated/employed by/close relative to any of the above)". Again, it probably fits the general population fairly well. Without a direct connection a person usually picks a team because of regular positive exposure and when things aren't going good/great they are generally the first to leave/fade away.
Eastwood, did not make it. Ball out! Recovered, by Montana State!! The Bobcats hold!!! The Bobcats hold!!!

Re: Did you attend MSU?
I attended MSU for 7 glorious years starting in 1980.
Granted, I took a bit of time off, then returned and worked as I went to school. Met my wife there - got married in '85, graduated in '87. Her father was an MSU grad as well.
My father had attended for a year in 1939-40, then had to return home to the ranch when WW2 started because his brothers all had to go off to war. He had a crippled right hand from polio, so he wasn't able to join up. I am #8 of 10 siblings who all attended MSU for at least a while. Oldest brother started in '65, obtained his Masters in economics, then went on to get his PhD at U of Minnesota. Seven of us ten graduated from MSU - the other three obtained degrees elsewhere, including one black sheep who got a forestry degree from UofM. Two sisters went on to be DVMs. I have two daughters who graduated from MSU and a son who attended for a while, then entered the trades. He's at least as big of a Cat fan as I am.
Best sports memories for me personally include attending the football games in 1984 and the early '80's basketball teams - especially the year(s) when they would come out and warm up in sync with Cool & the Gang's "Celebration". Wish I could see a video of that again! Bethel Debnam, Doug Hashley, Harry Heineken, the Ferch brothers, and all the rest could really put on a show back in the day.
Go Cats!

Graduated from Rocky. Parents had me and my brother when they were both in college at MSU, so I have been an MSU fan since birth. Been going to games younger than I can remember, and when I was at Rocky we would come over every Saturday for the games.
If your left, you aren’t right.

Grew up a casual fan, then attended from 05-09 but didn’t quite graduate, transferred to MSU-B for my last year and graduated. My wife attended and graduated from MSU, so as a couple we’re 90% MSU

Re: Did you attend MSU?
Moved to Billings in first grade from Seattle. Uncle played basketball at MSU; Dad at UM. Uncle sent me MSU gear to Seattle as a player when I was little and made me a fan. Went through HS and played baseball and basketball through each. Had JC baseball offers in CA/KS/MO/ID, but knew I wasn’t going past that level so went to UM on a one-week decision over MSU to start real work on a degree.
Realized quickly Missoula wasn’t for me, stayed two quarters, sat out Spring, and then transferred to MSU. Didn’t look back on going to Bozeman and graduating from my childhood team when I never thought I’d even live in Montana. Best decision I made was transferring, even though both my grandpa and dad played sports at UM and my dad is in their Hall of Champions.
Younger daughter is in accelerated CC in Portland, got accepted to MSU to appease her mom and me, but chose Oregon State instead.

Yes. Graduated in 1979. My first exposure to Bobcat football was in 1967. I grew up in Butte. My Uncle and Charley Judd, who ran the New Deal bar, were friends with Jim Sweeney, another Butte MSU heD coach. We drove over to Bozeman, saw practice and met with Jim Sweeney on the field. Pretty cool experience.

Re: Did you attend MSU?
I’ve traveled to watch Oregon Duck games, bought many tickets in Eugene, and didn’t spend a second of time in a classroom there. Without non-alumni fans, programs would not exist at all but the largest schools.
Dennis Washington didn’t go to any university and UM would still be on the Dornblaser property without his money.

Dad played ball at MSU, and mom graduated in three years with a set of twins. Been season tickets since Cliff.

Dennis went one quarter at Montana State College. College wasn't for him. Dennis and Garth Sime both ran dozers for my dad on a dam job in Washington. Way before I was born.PapaG wrote: ↑Fri Feb 24, 2023 2:09 pmI’ve traveled to watch Oregon Duck games, bought many tickets in Eugene, and didn’t spend a second of time in a classroom there. Re: Did you attend MSU?
Every college grad in my family and most in my extended family are MSU grads. Grew up a big fan. When it became my time for college I chased college basketball and wasn't D1 caliber so I went to a frontier school. Been a fan my whole life, but not a grad.

Re: Did you attend MSU?
I was walking through Target the other day and I noticed they moved the gris gear from the main aisle to the side aisle, where the Cat gear was located, and they moved the Cat gear to the more visible main aisle where the gris gear vacated. I thought that was interesting.

Re: Did you attend MSU?
Born in Helena, grew up in Great Falls. Attended MSU and tried to walk on as a linebacker during the Kramer era. Didn't take. Continued, however, to attend most,if not all, home games and absolutely fell in love with the Gameday atmosphere in Bozeman. Continued school through my sophomore year and decided to persue a career as a musician. That didn't take until about 6-7 years ago.
I try to make it to games when I'm in town on a home Saturday. Absolutely blown away to see how far this program has come since the days of a 3000 person crowd on homecoming.
Have called Bozeman home for 19 of the last 23 years and will continue to root for MSU until they put me in the ground.
Go Cats Go!!
Ps....I've seen coachouert chunder....on multiple occasions.
