Rovig was really close to putting up good numbers again vs. AP. He was 13-20-0, 114 yards, 1 TD for a 129.4 passer rating, which isn't bad. But could've easily been 16-23-0, 200 and 1 TD for a 156.9 passer rating had the long pass to Jonsen not been overturned, the pass to Jones/Steel not brought back for holding and Jonsen dropped a pass in the flat.

I think he only has one INT in the last six games.

MSU - 16 team National Champions (most recent 2024); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

I’m just here to say good luck to the kid and reassure everyone that Tommy Mellott is the man. The kid is all business. The kid has been putting in the time since he was 13/14 years old. He will be outworked by no one. He is super smart and tough as nails. He definitely has the it factor, and is like a coach on the field. The kid to be excited about is still coming, period.

I looked up the 2018 attendance figures for Western Kentucky and they get fewer (14,200) fans per game than the Cats (16,400). The Cat figures include that one 10,000 person playoff game that brought down the yearly average. I know WKU is FBS, but there isn’t much of a difference between that program and a Big Sky school. Anyway, like I wrote before, I hope he does amazing things there.
Doesn’t really seem like a step up. I know the conference is higher profile, but it does sound kind of Sun Belt-ish. What is WKU’s situation at QB next year? Maybe no heir apparent??

They have a graduating senior who is very similar stature and skill set. Coaching staff there had a true freshman play at USC last year. Maybe that’s the attraction. Western Kentucky did get beat by Central Arkansas this year.
Anyway good luck to him. Would love to have him in Bozeman.

Well, I hope this will open up an opportunity to land a big time player for our d-line. Pretty sure QB is set for a while. Time to reload on some more talent on the defensive side.

Everyone keeps prioritizing d-line but we have some pretty damn good youth and depth at the position. What we should be talking about? Safety.

We have so many corners that look good and more coming in, how many go to safety next year? Maybe Knight or Mellott eventually go that way. I would like to see us target some athletes with speed. That #11 last week was the only bright spot on APSU's offense and I would like to see us get a guy like that. We have decent overall team speed but seem to lack that one guy that can burn you at any moment.

Charles Brown fits the bill!

How about Okada at Safety? Sure tackler. Good speed, physical and great instincts.

I really like Ty Okada. The guy just flys around, and rarely misses a tackle..... wasn't he a walk on??? wow.

Safety (Zambrano?)
Okada

Filer Thomas

Andersen - O'Reilly - ???
Jobman - Deines/Rygg - Benson - Williams

Not sure who starts at Will or FS. Askelson, Gilman, Oster, should all be in play. Maybe they even move O'Reilly there if Martin impressed? Not sure.

I could see Jobman putting on a few pounds and moving to DE. I don't see how he gets snaps with our LB group. I guess I just don't like him at Will. Just a little lacking in speed, so DE fits well for his size profile. I'm not at all worried about our iDL. Looking at a transfer from Vanderbilt there too. Williams is an obvious. Have to find a way to get Hardy on the field more. He is an absolute play maker. I'm sure I'm forgetting somebody obvious, but that's off the top of my head.

Sorry to subvert the recruiting talk! I just saw one of my favorite QB's that we were looking at committed to ECU, which was a bummer. He was a clone of McGhee out there!

Wow the formatting changed my post a lot. I was trying to make it look like how they're lined up on the field.

Oh well.

Oh don't get me wrong, I like Okada at safety. But I would hate to lose him in that nickel role. Brayden, Jacque, Jojo, and Brian Campbell (will graduate despite one year of eligibility left) will all be moving on and MSU will need to fill some holes not just for depth but also experience. We can move this conversation to another thread but the current depth at the position for next year is Ty Okada, Luke May, Rylan Ortt...that's it. Last I heard Keaton Anderson took the year off to rehab and make a comeback but injuries have almost derailed his development. The only two corners who may be able to transition are Eric Zambrano or Tylor Bohannon. Alex Johnson may be able to transition from linebacker to strong safety but not sure he has the speed to play that position at this level. Anyway, I'm sure the coaches will bring in some transfers but I just don't understand everyone's concern about our defensive line when the safety cupboard is almost empty.

I think Okada is a great replacement for Alleyne, I LOVE how Ty is playing down the stretch, we missed him the beginning part of the year. I'm more worried about Konkol's replacement at strong safety. In fact, I think we have a lot of competent kids that can slide into the free safety role, a little smaller, little quicker, better in coverage. But not sure who can fill the bigger body-type, better in run support up by the line of scrimmage but still good in coverage role that #41 has excelled in the last couple of years.

Okada is really freaking good in that nickel/slot corner role.

Agreed, but so is JCole. Hopefully he's able to make it back from injury.
