Earlier in the year when we were less certain about a lot of things than we are now, I thought we MIGHT have a chance against Texas Tech. We still technically do, but now that more of our questions have been answered I think the outcome will probably fall in line with what we'd expect from a Big Sky - Big 12 match up.
This aligns with my thoughts as well. I felt better about this game before remembering they crushed EWU (56-10) two years ago and demolished playoff-bound Lamar (77-0) last year. I know it is a brand new coach, but Wells is a pretty damn good one.

I feel like if we were to shock the world, it would be more like 52-48 with us having scored 3 defensive tds.

I predict:
MSU: 13
TT: 55

If we truly have a dominant D this year then it may be:
MSU 17
TT: 35

Define standing a chance?

Texas Tech is a good team with a very good coach, imo.

Even with Murray, I don't think it would be that close.

We have a few guys who I completely believe are capable of competing well with TT. The problem we, and pretty much ever FCS team faces, is depth. We just do not have the same kind of depth.

I think we can compete well for a quarter, I'm hopeful we'll be within a couple TD's at halftime, but I'd be shocked if we ended up within 24 points of them by the end of the game.

OK, I don't think this will be as bad as it could be, I stipulate that TT is a good team and had a good but new to them coach and I think its a longshot to win.

traditional TT had been wide open passing offense, and subpar defense.
our strength this year is our defense so that plays strength to strength, we have better depth than most FCS defenses and a better secondary than most FCS defenses, they have speed but we will make a few stops.

On offense I think we have a solid run game and OL that will play our strength against their weakness, granted I don't expect to be able to run over a big 12 defense (even one of the weaker ones) but i think we will sustain some drives, eat clock and slow the game down a bit.

Our passing game at this point is unknown, all Big 12 defenses have good secondary's so I don't know how we will fare, if we can get a few downfield shots to keep them from stacking the box and don't make any turnovers I think we could be within range in the second half.

a key here will be turnovers, if we can not turn the ball over and get a couple on defense we may have a chance

realistic 45-27 Red Raiders
2 defensive take aways, no turnovers of our own and 4+ passes longer than 20 yards 38-41 Cats

Yep, with Chris Murry we would have actually stood a chance in that game.
Murray too one sided running, no passing and not give us a better chance to win.

Is there a point spread posted anywhere yet?

Baloney, Murray could spin it fine. You clearly didn't see the SDSU game. The kid was well on his way to being great in the passing game.

Usually don't get official lines for FBS/FCS matchups. Just checked 5dimes though and they have MSU as 21.5 point dogs. Surprisingly (to me, though maybe not surprising if I take off the blue and gold glasses) we are a bigger underdog to TT than EWU is to Washington (20 points).

That doesn't really surprise me because of the number of points TT usually puts up. Washington typically slows the game down if they are ahead.

MSU has really good, open field tacklers. Wazzu should have crushed us too when Falk was there but we kept it respectful. I think we beat that spread.

I think if we can keep Tech under 40 and we score at least 3 offense Tds I'll consider that a win.

When has Washington ever slowed the game down when they were ahead? They beat the griz by like 60 points and they've been in two tight games against EWU and not because they slowed down. Other than that they have never played FCS opponents.

Odds Shark has the predicted score 33.8-15.8 for TT. Compughterratings has the score 46-15 for TT. Both I'm sure are using data from last season.
