I’ve been impressed with the new broadcast guy, Zach Mackey. He has some nice short interviews up on Twitter.

Not trying to read too much into it, but I believe the last two tweets about the "play-it" sessions, Bauman was running with the 1's........ :-k

Could mean something. He’s running with the 1s first at least. I suppose that might change after the media leaves, but if they put him with the ones first it could mean he has an edge on Rovig.

I want to know this: every year we seem to say our DL is going to be very good; while parts or players have been outstanding for many years, I have not seen a completely dominant DL since Cordeiro and Montoya were coming off the edges. The Daly's and Minter and Schreibeis were amazing...but I want to see that complete package. Is this d-line that package? I will say for the first time in years - this d-line and supporting blitz packages could be the new gold standard. Anyone have thoughts? I've been waiting for years to think this! I don't want to be overly optimistic but maybe this is it!

The 2012 defensive line had 2 buck winners and a borderline NFL talent in Minter. Doesn't get much better than that.
But this year's defense as a whole should be as good or better than that defense overall.

I told you days ago, they’ve given Rovig every opportunity to grab the bull by the horns and be the starter. He hasn’t risen to the occasion (again). They see more upside in Bauman. He will be your starter until Troy takes over again.

I have no first hand knowledge of how Choate runs his practices, but doesn't it seem that you'd want both Bauman and Rovig to get reps with the first team throughout fall camp? Today could just be Bauman's day. This may mean absolutely nothing. This is just my two cents, so it could very well mean everything.

I thought last year's DLine was outstanding, but the linebackers let them down. I think the same goes for some of the previous years where we had minter/schreibeis/daly, etc. Those years, I think our (by our I mean Jamie Marshall's) coverage schemes and db personnel left a lot to be desired.

Like RobertsCat said we shouldn’t read too much into it. As long as MSU doesn’t have a QB that consistently blows games for it with untimely mistakes, it’ll be fine.

Choate hasn't named a starter, so of course he's going to want to see how both guys perform with the 1's on offense vs the 1's on defense.
