hahahah

I love it. this next year is TA's first year where he is expected to be a full time linebacker after spending nearly all of his first 2 years on offense... and he is selected as a pre-season All American Defense 1st teamer, with close to zero experience on the defensive side.... haha, wow!

just speaks to the crazy hype that is surrounding this kid, not just in the Big Sky, but across the entire country. Note- I do not disagree with the selection, just think its crazy that he actually made that list.
That is pretty crazy. Word gets out fast when you're dealing with an elite freak athlete like Troy!

Sterk should be on that list - probably left off due to lack of recognition on the Big Sky Conf postseason awards (that was very wrong too). And most of these pre-season lists are distillations from last years conference awards.

+1

There are a handful of other Bobcats that could end up somewhere on this list by the end of the year as well: Konkel, Alleyne, pretty much any of the OL guys... just to name a few.

But yeah, Bryce Sterk got totally hosed last year, which is the main reason he is not on this list either... How do you lead the conference in Sacks and TFL, be a complete wrecking machine.... and not make big sky 1st team? what a joke.

I think I missed that he led the entire BSC in Sacks, AND TFL? That's awesome.

Mason Moe from UCD has 10.5 sacks, .81 per game. Sterk had 8.5, .65 per game.

Moe also had 20.5 TFL, 1.58 per game. Sterk had 17, 1.31 per game.

He was 2nd in the league in both categories. This takes playoff games into account, not sure what the totals are for regular season all games including non-conf.

Bryce had it in regular season games I do believe but technically Moe and Bryce each played in 13 games so Moe should get the designation.

“The national polls at the FCS level are, ‘Who made the playoffs last year, let’s put them somewhere in here.’ I just don’t think that it really means a lot,” Choate said. “When you look closer to home, here’s what people in the Big Sky think of us: They picked us eighth last year and we’ve had exactly one first-team all-conference player in each of my three years here. So I still have a chip on my shoulder.

“You look over the hill at Montana, they have multiple all-conference guys every year. National player of the year candidates, et cetera. We’ve got a lot of work to do and we’ve got a lot to prove.

“We’re just down here in Bozeman keeping our head to the grindstone, so we’ll see. I think we’ve built and built, and I think people know that we’re going to be a tough outfit. But as far as what that means on the national scale, it doesn’t mean a damn thing to me. It really doesn’t.”

All based on no proven starting QB and a new defensive coordinator.

I think it has more to do with Eastern Washington, UC Davis, Weber State, and coaches having no idea.

I don’t think you can vote for your own team, so probably not Hauck. Probably Choate or Petrino.

The Griz media #1 vote is probably from Bill Speltz of the Missoulian.

Having a good QB matters...a lot.

Ours are unproven. Let's hope they're good, because the rest of the team is!

I wonder if Choate voted for them so the team would have bulletin board material throughout the season.

Five of the 24 (>20%) preseason first team offense/defense players are Bobcats, which you’d think in a 13 team league would get you in the top 3, but unproven QB knocks them down.

Brott, Andersen (at fullback), Sterk, Filer and Konkol

Not that it will end up correct, but the media and coaches polls are remarkably similar. With the exception of a couple flips between them, consistent top to bottom. Don't see that every year.

The coach poll doesn’t make sense. Assuming 13 points for a first place vote and 1 point for last, then how does EWU only have 140? Ten firsts is 130. That means they only got 10 points on the other three votes, which means none of the other voters picked them above sixth. No way. You have to give them third at least.

Also, if whoever voted UM first had put them fifth, which is where they belong, then MSU would be fourth. But who cares.
