As of 9:00 p.m. tonight I am hearing that perhaps the U of M has NOT made a final decision to hire Bobby Hauck. That contradicts what I heard earlier today, so we will
see how this plays out.

I'm reminded of a stint I had near Knoxville, TN in the mid-80s when the infamous "thug" teams at Miami were going strong. The Knoxville News-Sentinel
ran a sports fan poll: "Would you rather have a national championship team with a bunch of thugs, or go 7-4 with a team that had excellent character?" I will never
forget the poll results: 75% said they wanted the thugs and the championship. Yet, look at how the UT fans behaved the other day when they thought they were
about to get a coach that was in any small way connected to the Sandusky scandal at PSU.

Even though I'm a diehard MSU fan, I have felt sympathy for the the UM institution as it has been going through recently with its dropping enrollment, cuts, etc.
However, IF, IF the institution--the U of M--goes through with this hiring of Hauck, even AFTER the Missoulan ran the big article containing the three page
rap sheet of crap that happened under Hauck's watch, my opinion of the institution will dramatically change.

The very fact that UM would even INTERVIEW Hauck, who has taken pride in his classless, jerk behavior, spreads a very dark cloud over the entire university.

Again, if this hire goes through, it will reflect extremely poorly, not just on the AD, but especially on the president of the institution. Gosh, just think, I came within
a hair of attending the University of Montana back in the 1970s. Again, if UM makes this hire, I would truly be ashamed to be a graduate of the U of M.

I am a firm believer that those that get the most attention on message boards don't necessarily represent the whole community. I am obviously a griz fan, but first an alumnus of the university. I know that the worst of what comes out on these boards don't represent me and I would hope you guys know enough real life griz fans that are not anything like you see on the internet. Anonymity and a safe distance causes some people to say some crazy things. I know you guys have had posters on here that you don't feel represent you.

I don't believe in an instant return to glory. Anything short of a NDSU type dominance and egriz will implode on itself. Unrealistic expectations are a trademark for egriz. The one thing I am grateful for is that the student conduct code sets punishment for transgressions and not the coach.

The thing that looks bad for your fan base is that UM hired Hauck back and the consensus is that it’s because a couple big boosters and a large number of fans made the decision, not the university staff. I have to wonder if Hauck himself is scratching his head over being hired.

The griz had no choice but to hire hauck. heres how it might have played out....... griz lose to the cats, alumni and big pocket boosters are not happy. attendance is falling, revenue is dropping, a deficit...... big problems. if haslam keeps stitt another year, the griz start the year with low attendance, stitt loses a game and attendance takes a huge nose dive. so haslam has to do something....... does he bring in another unkown? hell no..... he needs an instant fix. he needs someone who will make the boosters happy, that will put butts in the seat. an unknown coach isn't going to do that.

I am sorry, but the only thing wrong with this statement is that the student conduct code only comes into play when a player is CAUGHT doing something. It is my belief based on numerous stories coming from Missoula that Hauck was very good at getting these things swept under the rug quite often so they never reached this level.

Not going to happen this time. Waaaay too much scrutiny and people that will be looking for players to F up. There will be no rug sweeping for Bobby and there will be no "Miss one quarter of a cupcake game." for players getting arrested. grizatwork is spot on here, including the part about this not being an instant fix. There will be "FIRE HAUCK" threads on egriz in 2018 - that I can promise you.
