Edub will be fired up, and my bet is the Cats will come out flat after the long layover. Still not convinced the defense is vastly improved, AND I will take Baldwin over Ash in a "must win" game 8 days a week. EWU by a relatively large margin.

EWU 55
CATS 38

EWU always has linemen and good linebackers and safeties. They also plug any skill kids in and let it roll. They have interchangeable parts and never miss a beat. Our offense might score three times against that defense but they light up our defense. 45-21 EWU.

Lower scoring game than you would think. Daly makes long field goal to win it for the Cats. 38-35

I just don't have it in me to pick against the Cats.

Teams have had success running the ball against EWU, which will open up the passing game. I will take our defense over ewu's at this point in the season.

Hope I am wrong, but my gut tells me:

EWU---45
Cats---38

I don't think our schedule was any help to start this season. Just have no clue about this team yet. Maybe that is good, maybe it is bad.

Stats and history are both against us: EWU has played two quality teams on the road and is now back home at their inferno. The Cats are largely untested and historically oft unprepared with slow starts. Furthermore Coach Ash's tenure has yet to upset a higher ranked team(arguably one game) . And with the reins placed on Prukop, and our run game largely being stuffed by a D-2 team, I don't like our chances. Hope I'm wrong and the boys come out on fire and we see more pluck than those teams in the past, but think I'll go hunting Saturday. Shucks, where can I watch in Livingston?
EWU 49
Cats 25

Side Note: Cal Poly vs. Northern Iowa is an interesting match-up.

Guys, have a little faith. We are the higher ranked team in every poll. Offense gets it clicking, defense shows what they are made of: 52 - 35 Cats win!

What are you people smoking? MSU will run for 350, pass for 250 and score at least 50. For MSU to score under 50 you'd have to be assuming EWU will run it on almost every down.

Despite Ft. Lewis running it on 45 of their 62 plays to drain the clock and limit our possessions we still easily had a 60-point effort within our reach last week. EWU will do just the opposite and we'll have twice as many possessions. EWU's defense and run games are not as good as last year. Forte ran for 190 last year and they won't get that. They won't hold us to 0-3 on fourth downs again either.

It the Cats score 25 it is a complete FAIL by the offense. I see some definite weaknesses on the EW D and they also look like they wear down as well when you ground pound it. The OL better come to play this week and with attitude as the points will be up there to score if we do.

38-37 Cats start out slow, but clean things up and get a great road win.

Weekly Prediction Thread: Game 2 at EWU

Post by 77matcat » Tue Sep 15, 2015 8:04 am

Too early to guess what to expect.

I am concerned that our offense no longer being novelty combined with the throttling back of Prukop's running will result in fewer points this year.

I am hopeful that unshackling the defense and allowing them to react not read and think will speed up the defense and getting out of the fricken ten yards off the line of scrimmage zone will slow down points scored against us.

35 - 28 Cats.

I need to know more about the defense this year, other than just Ioane being in charge, and their showing against Ft. Lewis, before I'll be convinced that it's significantly better than last season. I see this game being another shootout, just like last year. I always go with my head over my heart in this contest, and with the game being in Cheney, my head tells me I have to pick EWU...52-45. Obviously Kupp's status will be a huge factor, but I'm guessing that he'll gut it out, and will not just play, but will play well. If he stays healthy, he should be a lock for BSC MVP on offense...almost 400 yards receiving in the first two games, against two very good teams.
