Weekly Prediction Thread: Game 2 at EWU

Post by coachouert » Mon Sep 14, 2015 10:40 am

I feel like the season is starting all over again after the bye week. Congratulations to grizhunter who was only one point off in his prediction of the Fort Lewis game. He will be entered into the final weekly prediction pool at the end of the season.

This week, MSU makes the short trip over to Cheney to visit Eastern Washington. As was stated last time, As with the first week, make your prediction in this thread no later than one hour before kickoff. Whoever is closest on their prediction will be entered into an end of the season pool where I will randomly draw a weekly winner to win something. Prize TBD. Any edits or submissions to a prediction done post kickoff will automatically be rejected. Make your predictions, discuss your predictions, good luck and as always Go Cats!

My Prediction:
Cats: 45
EWOOOOOOOOOO Girls: 42

I'm still not sure on the defense and the EWOOOOOOOOOOOO Girls are trying their best to avoid an 0-3 start. I suspect it'll be a shootout as it has been the past few years. I also suspect I'll swear off drinking on Sunday just as I have done the past few years.

I think that pressure issues we had vs Fort Lewis will be solved. I think there will be fresh bodies to keep tabs on the WRs of ewoo and our run support will be stellar. I'm guessing they'll still throw for 400+ yards but we'll win it.

51-38 CATS

Not sure I can argue with EWU being able to score 45, but I don't think the Cats will be held to 28.

Anyone who thinks they can figure this game out is High on catnip.

EWU
-EWU is 0-2 and the thought of not being 0-3 will be a huge motivator.
-Kupp, how injured is he? Last week he was on pace to catch nearly 20 balls for 300 yards.
-How Bad/good is their D? have given up 99 points in two games to two very good teams.
-Home field advantage? EWU never really gets a lot of fans to their games, espicially when the cats and Griz scoop up as many as they can.

cats
- Have only played one game vs. a pathetic opponent, results MEH.
- Is the D really better?
- Can the O win a shootout in Cheney?
- Will Ash make the right decisions?

I can really see anything from a blowout (either team) to a slugfest. If this was in Bozeman I would take the home team, but its not. Close until the last 10 minutes and EWU score 2 TDs late.

EWU 54-35

It doesn't take much to realize MSU will score at least 50.
MSU 63, EWU 38

42-35 Cats! The EW looked like it tended to wear down some in the second half so the CATS need to make sure they are balanced and keep the power running game going (this includes running with Prukop as he will need to run to have balance and beat them). Redzone success is going to be CRITICAL in this game. We cannot live on field goals and expect to beat them.

FAST & PHYSICAL!

59-41 Cats
Everything I've seen from EWU the past 2 weeks, they can't stop the run, which is our bread and butter.
Brekke, Newell and Prukop all rush for over 100 and all have rushing TD's.

44 to 40, CATS win. EWU drives deep into CAT territory late to try for the win but our D actually get a stop at a crucial time.

Regarding how bad/good their D is.....I think you answered your question in the very next sentence. I can't say for sure if the Cat D is any better though. Time will tell.

My pick:

MSU - 58
EWU - 49

Slow the game down. Get a few turnovers.

CATS - 38
EWU - 27

EWU starts hot, but we dial up the pressure and get a pick six to change the momentum!

No freaking idea what the Cats will look like, but this game means a lot at this point in the season. If the D can stay positive in turnover ratio for the game, I like our chances.

Cats 48
beags 40

I am a little nervous, but with Kupp's status uncertain, and I am not sold on West as a QB. Montana State Will be fired up to play on that Inferno turf.

EWU has shown they can put up yards and points at a quick pace, but possibly no Kupp this week, though I'd be shocked if he doesn't play.

Don't know what to take from MSU's only game. Took awhile for the offense to get on track. If they're slow out of the gate this week, they might get stuck sitting in the gate. Can't afford 2 or 3 three-and-outs to start the game. At least need to string a drive together, take some time off the clock if the plan is to slow it down.

MSU's defense? Who the heck knows, but the safe assumption at this point is they're going to have a hard time covering EWU's receivers, West may have plenty of time to sit and find open receivers unless there's better pressure than in week 1.

I dunno...I think if its close, its going to be another slugfest. If the Cats start with stalled drives, might be a long day. I'm staying optimistic though, going with the shootout: MSU:45 EWU:42
