If a person wanted to cause some trouble they would just make the 20 minute drive to Livingston... The Griz should just play it safe and spend the night in Missoula, where they would be safe from those mean Cat fans.

I have mixed feelings about this. Yes, as a general rule, advertising on a message board is bad, and I wouldn't want to see these boards turn into billboards for every business in the state.

On the other hand, though, it's not like this guy is selling auto parts, or pastrami sandwiches, or something else that's unrelated to the content of the boards. He's advertising a Griz fan party on a Griz message board. Yes, it's advertising, but it's also information that regular readers of the board might likely be interested in, and if the moderators don't have a problem with it, then I'm not going to let it bother me just because I generally think that using message boards for free advertising is bad.

To be perfectly honest, I couldn't care less. I actually find the whole Livingston thing for fans humorous; I can see the team staying there a whole lot more.
I probably have been guilty of advertising due to the fact I'm trying to get our fan bus filled for the trip to Cheney this weekend.

On a final note, this 'Cat fan would like to send out an invitation to all Griz fans to come and stay in Bozeman for the Cat/Griz weekend. If I see you around town or at the game that weekend, odds are I'll come up and say hi, dish out the normal pro 'Cat anti Griz conversation, wish you a great weekend. In case you haven't gotten a motel yet, there is a new Hilton Garden Inn that just opened up.

The Hilton Garden Inn is already full, at least according to the website I was looking at. I got my flight, but I didn't get a room ... I guess I am probably crashing with relatives next weekend.

Is there any establishments in either Bozeman or Missoula that advertise both the Cats and the Griz? When I was in Eugene for the Griz/Ducks game I was amazed at how many businesses had both Ducks and Beavers pictures on the windows. I guess that shows how much more heated the rivalry is in Montana than other places.

Yeah the Civil War is very Civil. The real rivalry is Oregon vs Washington. That is much more heated, but the Oregon/OSU rivalry isn't much.

You must be kidding!!! The Civil War was as intense as Cat/Griz when I was in Oregon 4 years ago...I knew families who supported each team and would hardly speak to one another before and after the game. What happened?

Really? I am very surprised by that. I went to a Civil War party last year and everyone was just joking around and having a good time. I work with some huge Oregon fans and some OSU fans and they say it is a very friendly rivalry. In fact most of them cheer for OSU and Oregon each weekend. Maybe I have just seen the only friendly side of it, but when I describe the intensity of Cat/Griz no one around here really understands how we can hate each other so much for one day.

For all of you that are questioning my loyalty, I would ask how many other business owners have a 15% surcharge for Griz Fans as I have published on the cover of my menu(although its just a good-natured joke)? By the way its a pre-game function open to everyone, and I was asked by a Griz alumni to post that info on the Griz site. You can bet that I will have all my blue and gold. And, anyone that wants to celebrate one of the oldest rivalries in the country is invited.

Anyone consider that this is probably the reason the Griz are staying in Livingston? I'm guessing it was pretty difficult to find the 100+ rooms the team and travelling entorage would require in Bozeman on Griz-Cat weekend.

I do think this rivalry has really heated up over the last 5 years or so. I've got great friends who are OSU grads, and quite honestly, for so long OSU was just terrible, and the game lost some luster. Oregon's "rival" became Washington because those games were more competetive and "meant" more in terms of conference and national significance. But that's changing now that OSU has fielded some better teams.
