GRIZ Shutouts... very interesting!

Post by MaZooLaGriz » Sun Nov 06, 2005 11:58 am

An interesting post on one of the Griz boards:
-----------------------------------------------------
The last time the Griz posted 3 shut outs in one season (playoffs included) occured in 1970. Care to guess which was one of those three teams?
-----------------------------------------------------
Hmm... maybe a record-breaking season after all!

Don't you mean that LooLay is... well, to use your term, "great"? That appears to be about it.

Not that it matters, but even if the score had truly been only 9-0, that would still have been a wider margin than the Cats beat NAU by...

We looked way better. The griz caught a couple lucky breaks in the game which basically deflated any hopes the ljacks had of upsetting a ranked team.

1. For Example blocked FG returned for touchdown
2. Underhanded toss up by marietta to reciever who basically set the ball in the hands of a griz LB.

Where I live, it's pretty much impossible to get BSC games, so I obviously didn't see either game (and thus, everything I write on this thread is purely smack talk and should be taken in good humor). However, on a slightly serious note, why is it that big special teams and defensive plays are always painted by opposing fans as "lucky?" Granted, the Griz offense had a terrible day on Saturday, but why are a blocked FG returned for a TD and an int returned for a TD automatically "lucky" plays? Cat fans talked about this last year after our wins against EWU and ISU too, but the fact of the matter is that blocking a FG is not easy, and returning an interception 42 yards for a TD is no easier than taking a short pass 42 yards, so why is one a lucky play and not the other?

You made a great point in that you did not watch the game.

A diving interception should be heralded, or even one where the DB makes a great play on the ball. However, when the reciever basically volleyball sets the ball to the griz LB. C'mon

And if a blocked FG is returned for a TD every game or once every ten games, or once every 50 games, or once every 100 games, or once every .... Then I wouldn't consider it lucky. My point is it doesn't happen as often as a 43 yard pass.

You shouldn't have responded unless you had seen the game.
I don't hold it against you, understanding that you don't get the games in your neck of the woods.
