Poor Joey

Post by Blue and Gold » Thu Nov 03, 2005 10:47 am

I hope this is the wake up call Joey will listen to. Maybe the next team will allow Joey to be the best player that he says he is. In order for this to happen Joey needs to shut his mouth and learn how to hit someone.

Sherman is a class act and professionally danced around calling Joey what he can sometimes be...a great athlete that lacks the heart to be a great football player. To top it off, he loses the Cleveland game and then complians about PT? I watch the Packers each week and continually see Joey slow up on plays to avoid making a hit.

If Joey had half of Kane's heart...he would be all-pro.

BTW, what has he done for MSU since his departure?

I totally disagree. I've been watching a lot of his games on defense and he does not give up big plays or gets beat deep at all. He was not cut for his playing ability. I agree he needs to buck up/shut his mouth and play, but corners (like WR's) in the NFL are very competitive people. If you have watched ANY of the Packers game this year how is Joey's ability compared to Ahmad Carrol? Carrol is AWFUL, but yet he gets all the playing time? He is a very nice cover corner (maybe not a top tier SHUT DOWN corner) but he will definately make it with another team.

Plus the last time I looked, Joey didn't play offense? How did he lose the Cleveland game for them? The Packers defense is like 15th in the league or so?

Sorry Cardiac, I meant the Cincinnatti game...Cincinnatt, Cleveland, Akron, who cares...I darn mad and not gonna take it.

Just kidding.

But yesterday everone was down on Sherman, with little accountability placed on Joey.

Sherman knows he needs good corners...he wants to win...something does not add up.

Your right something does not add up. Sherman just does not want to admit that Carroll was a bust. Not to say that Joey would be an all-pro but he was not given a fair shot. Joey finally gets a start, has one bad play and is immediately taken out of the starting role. Carroll gets burnt for a touchdown at least once a game and throws in three or four pass interference/ defensive holdings a game. What makes Carroll so much better?

Hopefully he will get a chance to go and get coached very well and have the ability to make it on an even level as his teamates. I think the fight might have had more to do with this (lasting effects) than anything. I'm not in the 'know' there so it is hard to say. However I think he makes a very good 2nd/Nickel CB in the league. He does need to start playing a little more physical in tackling, but he does have good cover skills that is for sure. He should get better. Lots of STUD #1 pick corners struggle coming out of college (Jammer) and some current studs get beat big every other week (Bailey) even though they have the STUD reputation. There are a lot of passes thrown in an NFL game with great athletes. The WR's this day are awesome athletes and have the NFL rules on their side as well. It's tough to be a corner now in the NFL as you can't bump/touch or anything.

Anyway, I hope Joey gets called up by another team and excells.

I would like to see him as a Viking, but I would not wish that on anyone I liked. He needs to find a team that wll give him some playing time. In his 1 and 1/2 years in the league he has been injured almost half of those games and only started two games so he has yet to experience a whole season. He just needs the reps to get better.

Are you kidding me?

Joey was a class act in all of his comments about being released, he came back to Bozeman and went to the schools as well as putting on a camp, what else does he have to do? Clean your house?

Give me a break, he is improving and just because he had one or two mistakes doesn't make him a bad player or a bad person. Sure he has things to learn, but his comments yesterday were very mature.

Found this on ESPN:

Surprise move: The Packers' decision to give up on second-year cornerback Joey Thomas, a third-round disappointment, was stunning. Ahmad Carroll has been worse and now goes back to the starting lineup. Carroll has four penalties, and Thomas had one. Each has been beaten for 14 completions this season, according to Stats Inc. Each has been beaten for one touchdown.

Goes to show that we aren't being biased. I hope the best for Joey and maybe this is a blessing in disguise. I can also see where Joey would argue about his playing time!!!

Does anyone have a link that has some of Joey's comments when he was released? I never did see those?

Did anyone see the anemic tackle attempts that "PacMan" Jones made last Sunday? It made Joey look like John Lynch!
